Research reveals:

 BCA Judging Handbook

Year      Model  Code            Lower Body Color            Code       Stripe              Moulding
1927     27-40                       Delaware Green              58642      Gold(2)            Black

Buick Special features and detailed specifications brochure
Three gold stripes are used; one above the upper moulding and one above and below the lower moulding.

I don't necessarily favor one gold stripe above  the upper molding and believe I will only add the two gold stripes (one above and one below) the lower black molding.
Question:  Would anyone have advice/knowledge on how wide or thick the painted gold stripe should be?
Thanks

Hi Larry,

Thank you ! The pictures you added are an excellent depiction of the location of the two gold stripes , one above and one below the lower black molding.

Any thoughts as to how wide or thick the gold painted stripe should be ?   1/8 " maybe ?

Regards,

Tom

Tom,

That looks like 1/8" gold stripe to me.

Not everything in the BCA Judging book is correct.  That book was done in 2005, and there are many gaps.  I have submitted corrections years ago, but they have not made the updates.

This is a 1926 Buick Model 40.  The upper stripe should be below the upper moulding, then the 2 stripes on either side of the lower moulding.  It makes more sense anyway that the gold stripes would be on the blue field, and not a random stripe on the black top section.

And don't forget your wheels.  A stripe on each spoke and a strip around the felloe.  The wheel spears are a little shorter in length on the model 40 as that is a 21" tire.  The longer spears are on 22" 1925 Buick wheels.

The hood louvers were also pin striped.  1927 model 54 (original) and 1925 model 25.

Hugh

Thank you Hugh,

Your comments about the stripe properly going below the upper molding reinforces my thoughts and makes much more sense. Thanks for the stripe width guidance and for all of the other striping placement descriptions and pictures.

I continue to learn and appreciate all of your expertise.

Tom

By the way, any plans to come East this year?

Thomas,  I was hoping to make it to Hershey this year, doubtful if I will make it to Upstate New York though.  Attached are notes on the pinstriping method that I use and I have good luck with this.    Hugh

Tony Bult in Wisconsin has a 27-40 with original paint in his shop right now.  I am going to see him in 2 weeks; you can either contact him or I can measure them when I am there and let you know
