paulrhd29nz
Hi all. Any one know what a set of carbs and linkage would be worth? Rebuilt or used. I’m looking at one that someone swiped the carbs off and need to know what they are worth for negotiation purposes. I’m unsure of the engine size for that year. DrData
If they were SUs, check with Burlen’s (burlen.co.uk). They also handle most other brands used on British cars, they should be able to give you an estimate pretty easily.
yachtflame
I emailed your query to my good friend Geoff Roger’s of Roger’s Motors in Shutesbury, MA. He deals in vintage Jaguars and a few other British cars. Below was his answer. I hope it helps!
60FlatTop
They would be SUs. Just a guess but I would figure $400-$500 each. If I was buying a car as described I would budget $2500 to get a usable pair on the car. Knowing that there would be a lot of other tasks in line for such a car I would research what was needed and price out the cost of immediate purchase. With that information I would start a more passive search with time on my side and maybe save $500-$1000 using the search time to address other needs of the car. There are a lot of rusty MK IVs out there and ones that were "disassembled for restoration". That model is one of the more mechanic friendly of the RR/B cars but you will find enough jobs on a benevolently neglected one so your carb search won't have to be too aggressive. Another approach would be to part it out. Over a four year period you should be able to gross about $6,000 in the sale of pieces. Oh, yes, the edit: Get involved in that Bentley and you will gain a much deeper appreciation of your Hudsons.
