RUNNING BOARD STEP PLATES - FRANKLIN

Recommended Posts

I would appreciate advice from those, more knowledgeable than myself.

More than four decades ago, then owning a 1917 Franklin 9A Touring,

I bought a set of Four (4) heavy Step Plates,

the kind mounted on a running board at each of the doors.

These are quite heavy - probably Cast Aluminum,

they have never been mounted,

each is ten (10") inches in width,

have what appears to be a "Mud Scraper" at the exterior edge,

have side to side embossed ridges,

and have the FRANKLIN brand name embossed.

I plan to bring these, as well as a pair for Chevrolet to my Hershey Spaces

Chocolate Field Lamp Post 58 - Spaces CG 32, 33, 34

or could bring them to the Glidden Tour in Georgia in October

Having no idea of the desirability or more to the point - the value of these Step Plates,

I would appreciate your thoughts.

@Marty Roth

Those don't look like your average $80 repops... I truly have no idea of the value, but I know what I'd pay.

Also, I'm not sure how rare Franklin step plates like these are, but because of the like new (NOS?) condition and the fact they are heavy aluminum brings the value up in my view.

I can only go based off my desire for those type of parts for my own truck.

If I was in the market for some with a specific Dodge Brothers logo in that condition I'd pay up to $500 for two.

I have a used set that needs completely restored that I paid around $100 for (with the red and green jewel, missing the rubber mats) but they don't say Dodge Brothers or have a logo. If they had the DB logo I would have easily paid double because I have never seen a set and they'd have to be rare. The only reason I paid $100 for a pair is because I'd only seen this style on one 1930 Dodge Brothers panel truck in the thousands of photos I'd seen.  I realize mine are a generic aftermarket part used in the era, but I simply wanted to match the style in the photo. Point being, I would have paid much more if they said Dodge Brothers in heavy cast aluminum, even in unrestored condition.

Good luck on the sale, I'm sure someone will be very interested in them.

Dave

Thank you, Dave,

A friend reminded me that I “only” paid $500 or maybe $600  at 125 or $150 Each for the four of them, but that was 1978 or 1979.

Of course that still doesn’t give me a value today, and of course I want to be flexible so that they can be enjoyed by a Franklin owner, driver, or at least someone who appreciates them.
