herman de boer
People What kind of oil I use for the engine in the studebaker rockne 65 Thanks Herman
Larry Schramm
Any oil should be fine. Many persons use 30W or 10W30. The least expensive oil today is better than the best oil in the day. I personally use the least expensive oil at Wal-Mart/ Sams Club. Works fine. Edited August 24, 2022 by Larry Schramm (see edit history)
studeboy
I use straight 30 w detergent oil in my rebuilt 1940 commander ( same basic engine).
Rusty_OToole
Light oil lubricates better than heavy oil, detergent oil keeps the engine clean. I would try 10W30 and see what happens, and only use heavier oil if it leaked or made too much noise.
AJH
Assuming this is a fresh rebuild I would recommend something with some zinc to coat the cam followers. And since the engine is clean a good detergent oil to keep it that way. Have you installed an oil filter? My current favorite oil is 15w40 diesel oil. And change it regularly. Should we talk about engine break in or has your builder briefed you there?
