rocketraider
Morning paper said a Blackhawk chopper with 13 aboard went down at Ft Drum Tuesday. Pat, are you alright?
Guest
I don't know what outfit Pat is in but the soldiers who lost their lives so tragically were 10th Mountain Division, apparently there are 2 survivors out of 13 aboard.
rocketraider
Bump to top. Has anyone heard anything from him? Wayne Burgess?
Peter J.Heizmann
Glenn...from what I know via various communications with Pat, he made no mention of training to go back and indicated he is getting back into the mainstream. That's about all I know. Regards, Peter J.
R W Burgess
Rocketraider! Got an e-mail from Pat today acknowledging an earlier e-mail. He's find. I didn't ask about the accident, but today's paper listed the casualities and I didn't recognize anyone. I'll get Pat to come on here. R W Burgess
Also guys, Pat got awarded a Bronze Star for gallentry? in the Afghan war. He sent me a copy of the award certificate, but I couldn't read it. I'll see if he can attach it here. Wayne

ex98thdrill
Yes I am fine. I haven't been up to Fort Drum in about two weeks. Besides, us Engineers don't know a whole lot about them there Helicopters, so we stick to the ground. Yes we had to dodge the land mines, but if something goes wrong, we don't fall as far . Besides, a good NCO always lets those brash LT's that know everything go first .Naw seriously, all kidding aside, I am back home and I'm doing okay. Getting used to living a normal life and dealing with crowds again has been tough from time to time, but I'm dealing with things the best way that I can. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONCERN.......and yes I was awarded the Bronze Star. I'd give it up in a minute to have the last year of my life back, but on the same token, it beats the agony of a Purple Heart any day of the week. That Bronze Star is probably the highest award that a guy can get in a warzone without getting hurt, so I'll accept what was given to me, and be very thankfull for it. One thing that you need to remember:THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF SOLDIERS.THERE ARE OLD SOLDIERS, AND THERE ARE BOLD SOLDIERS, BUT YOU WON'T FIND TOO MANY WHO ARE BOTH (most of the bold ones never live long enough to get old). ex98thdrill
Thank you. I'm not active, I'm in the reserve, but I still have two more years to go before I can retire. I've also got to try to stay out of the middle east in the meantime.
rocketraider
Yah- we were worried about ya. Didn't want to hear that you'd survived the desert only to go down in a chopper crash. Stay stateside as long as you can.
ex98thdrill
I will if I have a say, but right now, it's not up to me (and neither was the last adventure). I'm 2 years from being able to retire, so I've got to stick with it now.
