John_S_in_Penna
Does anyone know anything about a "George Barris" vinyl top? It certainly isn't a factory item; could it have been some dealer's add-on, or is it just an individual customization? The car looks good to me--except for that mottled top. B Jake Moran
Hyperbole I believe. It looks factory applied. Check out the seams. Certainly not George Barris sourced without documentation. Park Avenue? Ames is 30 miles away and I go there every week for work.
John_S_in_Penna
It's not the Park Avenue trim level, so the ad has correctly listed the car. Park Avenues--scarce in the 1975-1976 big Electras--had very soft, highly padded pillow-cushioned seats, and sometimes a velour-covered center console. Here is a picture of a '76 Park Avenue, which I think is the same as a 1975:
B Jake Moran
Well it's a mystery then. I suppose it is custom but that means whoever did it pulled up all the stainless trim, seamed it correctly. Subject to seeing in person.
B Jake Moran
I am pretty sure I know where this is, 99% sure. 4 years ago I attended a joint Cadillac LaSalle Club and BCA picnic there. This farm has an over the top Buick collection. Rick Young was there as well as Alan Oldfield and other BCA folks. It sure looks the same. There are Buicks behind all those garage doors. This is a car I would love to own, but presently have no space. It's the right color for me, but if the top is truly non authentic I have little interest. Eliishere
Thanks B Jake Moran. I did spk with Gene. Will see the Buick Saturday. You appear to be correct about who Gene is. He also was kind enough to explain the George Barris connection. Very helpful.

Please tell us what is the connection of the mottled vinyl roof with customizer George Barris. It might be interesting.

Gene Upstill
I have the documentation on the George Barris top. It was created and designed by George Barris and was dealer installed. The well-respected Alan Oldfield of BCA ran down the info for me. Email me at upstill@hotmail.com and I can send attachments showing the documentation with pictures of the different designed Barris tops.
