ball and trunnion u-joint canvas boot help

I'm trying to find a picture or diagram of how to lace up the canvas boot that laces up with a leather strap. for the ball and trunnion u-joint for my 36 Dodge humpback.  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Bob

There are several styles of leather boots and I am not sure if they all lace up the same way.

 

I was going to scan and post the picture from the 1936-42 Plymouth Factory Service Manual but the picture in that book shows a leather boot with metal clips that are folded over to close it up rather than using lacing.

I seem to remember that the one on my '36 DB was laced like a shoe. Not certain.

Thanks Keiser, I knew you would/should know the answer.  That's pretty much what I was thinking.  Lace it up with square knot at top and tuck the ends back under the laces.

I’ve done them with “European Straight Lacing” (and tucking the knot + ends under the laces) or coiling tightly with bailing/lock wire.
Both have worked just fine.

It’s not like it’s meant to be air tight or hold spaceship in orbit.

Looks pretty good, but don't forget to check it after first few drives and then, periodically.
