m-mman
This is a postcard stock and size item. It just seem too good not to share. Interesting no prices listed for the DeSoto open cars. 4

28 Chrysler
Ten years earlier the cost of painting the fenders was $10, nice price cut.

How many times do people paint their fenders black because they "want a two tone"(?) When in reality the painted fender were the cheap version, the single color was the upgrade. 8 hours ago, JFranklin said: Desoto gas saver transmission? I wondered about this too. My guess it that it would have been an overdrive.

Most corner garages could hammer out of few dents, melt a little lead filler and then spray some black paint for common fender damage. ....makes me think of Art Huck's garage in "The Big Sleep". But matching a factory colored fender was pretty upscale work, more intended for dealerships or dedicated paint & body shops, I think.
JFranklin
That is basically why older car hoods were painted black. The varnish didn't last as well over all the engine heat and it was much easier to match black successfully.
