Hudsy Wudsy
Someone in Grand Rapids, MI is offering a choice looking red '75 Electra coupe for $15,000. White interior, no vinyl roof and 20,000 miles. Expensive, but nearly new and very attractive. Crummy photos, though. B Jake Moran
Hey Hudsy, put it in the wrong area as our administrator created a new Not Mine area.
B Jake Moran
I like the car, but don't like them throwing a new carb on instead of rebuilding the one it came with. Sounds like yet another "next generation" car. Could be wrong on that, but it has some tell tale signs like it seems to have been in storage in grandpas garage for a long time and willed to the grandson who can not fit it in the garage? I'm not sure I could. We mostly like "slick tops" no vinyl tops look better now and vinyl tops trap rust. Then add a nice color combination and apparently good options. Matt Harwood probably could sell this for $15,000 to $20,000 in his business, and it might be worth $15,000.
John_S_in_Penna
To me, a car of this era missing a vinyl top is bland. A vinyl roof gives an extra bit of detail, and it can offer, in effect, a two-tone for extra dash. When such a car has no vinyl roof, it is an almost automatic "Sorry, not interested" for me. Oops, I'm going to need a map soon. I thought that not having a vinyl roof was an asset.
B Jake Moran
Thankfully, we are just posting opinions. John is a thoughtful guy and I always respect his comments. The top does look a bit different on this Electra with no vinyl roof, but I like it.
lancemb
I like the naked roof, plus there's nothing for rust to hide under.
John_S_in_Penna
Some like vinyl roofs, others don't; some like certain paint colors, others do not. That's why having many options was good for sales! If you look at this red Electra without a vinyl roof, you'll see that the rear-quarter window doesn't line up with the front side window. The rear-quarter window looks too small without the vinyl roof, but more integrated when the roof is there. The lines were probably designed for the vinyl roof which almost all Electras had.
