aunty norm
Need advice! I have trouble in adjusting the cowl vent on a 1955 new yorker. I have fitted a new rubber which I purchased on the internet that was for a 1955 new yorker. I cannot compare it with the original as it was missing when I got the vehicle. I have tried the adjustment screws and hinge bolts but it still won't close fully. Any advice will gratefully accepted! Terry
TerryB
My parts book says the weatherstrip part number should be 1548 863 which appears to be the number on your piece. Since it’s a parts book it does not cover installation or adjustment. That weatherstrip number fits DeSoto and Imperial too and years 1955-56. TerryB
Do you think the inside opening of the weatherstrip is too narrow to fit around the vent lid? Did you try fitting it to just the vent lid to see if it fits? Thinking out loud here….
aunty norm
I think I have installed the rubber correctly. Can any one confirm I'm correct?
c49er
Some after market rubber parts are made of too stiff rubber. Open cell closed cell etc. Sometimes leaving the door closed hard for a couple weeks will imprint compress the rubber seal..then you can re-adjust down tighter. Then the rubber seal conforms...working fine and the panel fits flush and right.
StillOutThere
Just for your reference. "MMP" is Metro Molded Parts in Minnesota. Multiple places carry their stuff.
aunty norm
I have removed rubber seal and check to see if the vent closes correctly. All is OK . So it must be the seal. Thanks to all who have tried to help! Terry
