tcslr
Specially for the D-R distributors. What is the numeral difference mean on the distributor SN? As an example: 659B versus a 659E. Both look exactly alike, physically. Tom
hwellens
Internals are different. Advance curves are different, 659B max advance is 24 deg at 3000 rpm; 659E max advance is 18 deg at 2800 rpm. Need the distributor designed for the motor.
Bud Tierney
lways wondered about the letter differences; assumes, as you said, each designed for different engine... But would one work on a temporary basis?? I assume long term use could result in engine damage, similar to CerbKings caotion here about putting om any carb that fits... tcslr
Mr hwellens, Thanks. Sounds like you have a specification book. Can you tell me the difference between 660E and 662B? Tom

The 660E is for clockwise movement, cam angle 34 degrees, max advance of 34 degrees at 3000 rpm. advance starts at 500 rpm.
Bud Tierney
The old Motor car manuals had distributor info---my 46 has 662s bu beginning with J...an older issue might cover.... You should also try the Pre-War Buick forum in the Buick section below, hoping someone will have period dist info...
tcslr
I will. I just checked the Master parts list and it shows 662-B for 60-80-90 series in 31 and 32.

Dave39MD
My 31 66s has a 660E. The July 1, 1956 Delco-Remy parts history shows the 660E was superseded by the 662B. Dave
