1964KX
Having problems with my guide-matic on my ’64 Riviera, it had been working properly in the past but now after a few minutes of warm-up time, when in the auto mode, on high beam, in my pitch black driveway, the unit will cycle on and off, headlights turning on and off, as I can hear a relay clicking on and off, it happens even when the control is turned all the way to the left (counter-clockwise); anyone have a idea what is going on? 1964KX
Just thought of something that may be the cause of my problem, I upgraded to 60W halogen headlights recently, could they be drawing more power than the circuit can handle?,,,
telriv
You are thinking along the correct line/thoughts. You need to install relays for the hedlights so that the draw in amps/watts is not as large. Tom T.
EmTee
It sounds to me like you may be drawing enough current with high beams on to trigger the circuit breaker in the headlight switch. You should check the current draw of of those headlights with an ammeter (unplug the bulbs on one side and measure at the other). Compare to the maximum allowed for the headlight circuit. If excessive, you have to consider how much you really like those halogen bulbs... Another option might be LED (https://www.summitracing.com/search/part-type/sealed-beam-headlight-conversions?N=headlight-style%3Aled).
Bill Stoneberg
Not to mention if your alternator will handle the load. If, for example, you have the halogen lights on and your AC and radio. The alternators were not that big back then.
telriv
IF he wants to retain these particular lights he NEEDS to install the nec. relays. Not a hard job IF you stop & think about it. Tom T.
