  1. Thanks for your comment; yes, having a '65 Gran Sport I am familiar with the options, the question keeps getting different comments about the camshafts, some say it's different, some say it's not, 4bbl 425 vs. 2x4bbl 425. Over a long period of time I have always found the cams are the same for both versions of the 425 in '64/'65 and that the '59-'61 401 cams were the most radical. As I said previously, I don't know much about camshafts and am saying only what I found on the internet which I know isn't always correct. I posted a listing of cam specs for the nailheads on my other post concerning that subject, it seems to indicate those cams are the same; what is your take on it?,,,thanks again
  2. I’m not sure I understand your comment, are you saying that the ‘63/’64 single 4bbl 425 engine had a hotter cam than the ‘64/’65 425 “super wildcat” (KX/LX) engines did? I understood that the early 401 (’59-’61 or ’62) had the radical cams? I posted some cam info I found on the net, as I say, I have little cam knowledge,,,Thanks
  3. I’m about to install this camshaft in my ’64 Riviera 425 engine, I also have a factory dual quad set-up I’m going to install with the cam. I purchased this camshaft about 25 years ago from Poston Buick Enterprise in Alabama (now de-flunked), I don’t know much if anything about performance cams but when I purchased it, it was advertised to be the camshaft Buick should have installed in the dual quad engines instead of the standard 4 bbl cam. I am attaching the specs for the cam and invite anyone who knows camshafts to comment, good or bad,,,thanks
  4. Does anyone know if a timing chain set is available for the 425 engine that has a crankshaft gear that can be installed at different timing stages, example 2/4/6 advanced or retarded, to accommodate different camshaft degrees?
  5. Actually, my Riviera is a '64, I want to install the '65 switch pitch trans for a few reasons, I have a performance camshaft which was ground, or at least offered, by Posten Buick in Alabama, which I don't think is in business anymore. It was advertised in their catalogue as being the camshaft Buick should have installed in the KX/LX engines back then instead of the normal 4 bbl cam the engines came with. It is said to have "slight lope" and I've read the variable pitch trans could help with that at idle. I also have a few numbers correct factory 2x4 set-ups that I plan to install one of them when I do the cam and trans swap; a shift kit would also be a good upgrade if I can find one for the rebuild. So basically I'm working toward what was offered as the "grand sport" option in '64 but not called that till '65, the car already has the 3:42 posi rear,,,
  6. Trying to find a basic rebuild/refresh kit for my ’65 ST400 variable pitch transmission, most I have seen just are listed for ST400 and don’t specifically say it for the switch-pitch trans. My question is are they the same kit for both ST400 whether it’s a switch=pitch or not and can anyone point me to a source or a brand name and kit number?
  7. Can you post your asking price? I tried to send a PM but got this pop up, "Your account has not yet met the minimum content", not sure what it means though!,,,thanks
  8. As some suggested, one at a time, I grounded each of the female terminals on the wires leading to the dash and with the key on, both hot and cold lights worked so I know the bulbs, as well as the wiring are ok, as I mentioned, I changed the sender last fall with a Standard Ignition TS-15 which I bought from a local Mom & Pop parts store and are readily available on E-bay for around $20 although it can still be bad. Maybe I'm using too hot an antifreeze? (joke of course).
  9. Yes, sender has 2 contacts and they are clean as is the connector plug, since the cold does come on very infrequently I assume the bulb is good but perhaps not, could be ready to blow/burn out,,,thanks
  10. Mine does come on but very very infrequently, this morning it was 43 degrees here in Pa. and it didn't come on which I thought it would have, I had changed the sender last fall but it made no difference, the HOT light does come on while cranking the engine as it should; perhaps there is another fault somewhere,,,
  11. What does the engine or outside temperature need to be in order to trip the Cold light on the dash of my '64 Riviera?
  12. Thank, that is what I though it was for but didn't want to draw any wrong conclusions ,,,
  13. I am going to convert my points distributor ignition system to HEI, (Pertronics or equivalent) with a hi-voltage coil (50K) and wondering if I still need the condenser or not?,,,thanks
  14. I for one would like to know the brand and model # of the oil pressure gauge that fits into the clock opening above and center of the two large gauges on the '63-'65 Riviera; a picture would be great also,,,
  15. I had rebuilt both carter 4bbls from my '64 dual-quad set-up morethan 20 years ago for my ’64 Riviera, the kits had leather accelerator pumps which I had oiled at the time. Now I would like to re-install them, they had never been gassed-up and I’m sure the pumps have dried out; wondering if anyone has had experience with these leather pumps and if re-oiling them would bring them back to life; is it worth a try or is it a waste of time?
