DA 6 distributor set up

I am placing a distributor in my rebuilt engine and would any information of proper set up.

I believe number one on distributor should face toward front of engine. 
Once the oil pump is placed the distributor position is determined.

Both my Victory’s which are the same engine as yours are 90 degrees clockwise to the front of the engine. Basically pointing towards the manifold. 

Thats paint not nail polish. 😂

My number one points toward the number three spark plug. My grease cup points straight out toward where Matt's painted thumb is.

Will be getting my rebuilt engine next week. Will set up points when I have my flywheel timing marks as reference. 

Still not sure the relationship oil pump/camshaft gear and ignition timing.

You have probably already got this info, but from the manual:-

Stakeside, I finally found the picture I was looking for. It was in the wiring diagram in the DA owner's manual. It clearly shows the grease cup pointing straight to the right side of the car. And number one and two wires on the cap are parallel to the spark plugs. If you drew a line from one and two and another through all the spark plugs they would be parallel. Number one is closest to number one cylinder. Spark plug connectors are straight, not 90 degree. Myers made me a set with the proper wire and they were perfect.

The real trick was to get the distributor oriented correctly at the cam/oil pump gear. It took a few try’s but finally got correct setting.

I will redo my spark plug connectors later.
