Another Car from our Archives- Mercer?

My uncle Russell told me stories of a Mercer he once owned.  This was unmarked in a family album, but the details don't quite seem right for a Mercer to me.

Those fenders look kind of homemade.  Maybe the old ones got tore up.

Not a Mercer I reckon. Radiator is wrong for a start.

 

Note it has the steering tie rod across the front which suggests an early date - probably 1906-07 - before Mercer came into existence.

Well, it has a bustle behind the seat like the Mercer had but the seat is set back on an angle. Mercer seats are flat and right on the frame. The canvas fenders were used on lots of period road race race cars to keep the mud off the driver and mechanic. There are no louvers in the hood.

That's what I thought too.  I sure would like to take a walk around this one.  I'm searching through the rest of the archive in the hope I find another photo of this one from a different perspective.  I appreciate everyone's input!
