TerryB
Maybe motorcycle from the size and mounting? Might be an add on turn signal. If you apply power to it and it doesn’t light up it’s probably British 😀.
thehandleman
Very Interesting Terry, what year would you say if you were guessing I was thinking 1920s ? Thanks for your Input

thehandleman
Ok he got back with me and said bulb was hanging inside but it is a Mazda 6-8 volt 2CP Dual Filament, which kinda rules out British and also makes it a Taillight for the license lens and a stop light what's you got 28chrysler?? 🙂
TerryB
Yankee brand lights used that clip lens mount as did others I would assume. A red lens for the license plate seems odd. I had some aftermarket motorcycle lights that looked similar hence the cycle guess.
thehandleman
No terry there is a plastic lens on side the red lens is glass for parking or brake? Its so clean you miss it in the pics, look last photo
wac
The red lens is the taillight, the clear lens is to illuminate the license plate. The post mount makes me think it is an aftermarket replacement for a kerosene taillight. Electrification was a popular update in the mid and late teens of the last century. sagefinds
In 1912 when Cadillac came out with the first car with electric start and lights, they had a taillight very similar to that one in size and configuration, just unplated and Cadillac script. '13 Cad was about the same. Other quality car manufacturers of that era scrambled to also be electrified. I believe your light is an original off one of the other makes in the start of the nickel era about 1913 to maybe '16.

Studeous
Another British tell-tale would be a relentless oil drip when stationary.
