Ruppshop
if you could that would be awesome. this gives us a decent starting point for sure. thank you
Matt Harwood
Why convert to 12V just for turn signals? That generator will pose a problem, given that it's driven by the timing chain. I guess you could somehow re-wire it to 12V but it all seems like unnecessary effort and expense. There are 6V turn signal systems that you can buy that are far easier than a complete 12V conversion. Then again, it looks like you're already way down the road so maybe it's too late. But it's really not necessary.
Ruppshop
unfortunantlu in this instance he has decided to also upgrade to led head lights and tail lights that fit in the original housings he wants to be as original as possible but yet safe enough to be driven at night and the old tail lights with the 6v where hardly visible to modern vehicles. and the head lights where vary dim as well. the tail lights work already we are curently working on the head lights and turn sigals for up front
Matt Harwood
I use LEDs in the taillights. Nice and bright, no need for 12 volts. My headlights are nice and bright, although with the LEDs they were a little unfocused. I switched back to incandescent bulbs and they're quite good.
Ruppshop
well if this doesn't work we may have to go that route. if you don't mind me asking how did you wire up your turn signals?
Grimy
Not to try to convince @Matt Harwood or the OP, but for the benefit of others who may read this in the future: I certainly agree that original 3cp #63 taillight bubs and 6cp #81 or 13cp #87 stoplight bulbs are inadequate today. I use higher cp 6V bulbs: #1129 21 cp taillight and #1133 (mushroom head spotlight bulbs) 32 cp stoplight bulbs. Globe diameter can be an issue as on 1915-early 1924 Pierce tail/license lights which originally used #63 (3 cp), but I've successfully substituted #209 festoon bulbs of 15 cp (hot dog shape, designed for use in dome lights). I've also substituted #1133 spotlight bulbs (well focused) for specified #1129 headlight bulbs for 1920s cars and these are in fact better: #1129 *used* to be focused but not since 1970 at least. These result in more amperage draw, of course, requiring 3rd brush generators to be turned up and/or use a pair of Optima batteries in parallel (as I do for my 8-cyl Pierces) for their higher reserve capacity. FYI, according to a chart I copied long ago, here are amperage draws for some single-contact 6V bulbs: #63 3 cp 0.63A #81 6 cp 1.02A #1129 21cp 2.63A #1133 32cp 3.91A 6

They are 51/51 candle power. If you have a good silver or aluminum reflectors, they’re more than adequate. I’ve also found it’s best to try and find them online or at swap meets. You can get them at a Ford Store, made in China and you’ll get what you get. I’ve thrown boxes of those away. 1
