Dave39MD
Looking for a rumble / deck lid tee handle for a 31/32 Chevrolet Cabriolet or Coupe. The originals had a round sliding lid that covered the lock. Best picture I could find; Thanks, Dave

Best picture I could find; Thanks, Dave If you find one that's damaged, it can, definitely be restored to its original condition via welding and reshaping... thehandleman
Obviously you do not know a original 81 year old t handle will fit, and its scarce I never heard of a repair shop for a good handle, but whatever. I have one maybe two out of 45k plus oem factory original handles. good luck

Some would prefer to repair the original equipment rather than replacement.
thehandleman
I SUPPOSE IF THEY CANNOT FIND A OEM REPLACEMENT ANYWHERE, ALL 45K PLUS OF MINE ARE FROM JUNK YARDS IN THE EARLY 60'S ALL ORIGINAL HANDLES, NOT RE-POPPED CRAP FROM VIETNAM OR INDONEASIA ETC., BUT YOU HAVE A LOT TO LEARN ABOUT HANDLES, NOT ALL DECK LID HANDLES ARE POT METAL. THERE IS BRASS,THERE ARE BRASS CRIMP OVER CLAD, EARLY FORM OF ALUMINIUM, STEEL, STAINLESS CLAD CRIMP OVER STEEL.HECK EVEN SOME T HANDLE DOOR HANDLES ON A 1921-1923 TOURING CAR USED BRASS AND WOODEN DOWELS, EARLY POT METAL HANDLES WERE CRAPPY, STRESS CRACKED,CHUNKS MISSING SWELLED, SOME COMPANIES MADE REALLY STRONG ONES THOUGH. LET ME TEST YOUR HANDLE KNOWLEDGE. HOW MANY COMPANIES MADE DOOR HANDLES? HOW MANY CAR COMPANIES MADE THERE OWN BEFORE 1937? GOOD LUCK
Curti
Personally, I would go with a decent original.

GOOD LUCK I'm sure you are far more knowledgeable about T-handles than I and I'll be the first to say that I'm not an expert on antique vehicles, however when it comes to repairing it, I think many others would agree with me that I do a pretty good job at welding, Modifying and or replacing rotted or missing metal. You see, I'm a Fabricator. Not a parts specialist. That said, there's no reason to except your challenge because it's a battle I'll lose every time. But if you want to talk repairing pot metal great! But you don't have to be rude. James Ruther Pot Metal Welder "People and Relationships are far more important than money"

thehandleman
Got it, I said Good Luck, but I have been selling handles (Original Handles) Since 72 with may dads Hoard and now have aqquired thousands, and years of research. So when you said T handles were made of pot metal I chimed in also the guy's original post was he was looking for a 1931-1932 chevy deck handle and you offered repair I offered the real deal part. Look your a newbie to the AACA and we welcome all members, and thanks for your repair idea and ability. I would even be open to sending your business cards in packages I mail out to customers and long time customers of your service. I would first need to know your warranty you provide on pot metal handle repair?, and also what would you charge to do say one Interior door handle with stress cracks on handle but mount is fine? and the other interior door opener handle has cracks, chips and mount issues? Judging from your answer will determine if I will push your service, I visited before this exchange your video and was impressed on what I saw. but If I can sell a handle with stress cracks for 10.00 for a victory six just so the guy has a oem original to fill the hole is one thing and also sell a perfect original for 30-40 each what is your repair costs? I very much appreciate your offer - It's very kind of you. I charge by the hour at $60/hr. I offer a 100% guaranty against failure on all of my repairs. Also, I metal finish every project to resemble the original appearance. I am currently working on an aaca member's '39 Lincoln Zephyr grille... I will post photos of the finished work and ask the gentleman to give an account of his experience working with me. Actually I'm very excited to have the privilege of adding it to my repair album. Very nice vehicle he has... Anyhow, oh. I didn't catch your name? It's good to know you! 👍😊 James Ruther
