JRA
Hello Guys, I am strugling to define the year of this Studebaker Big Six roadster. I did not find any body or serial number. The engine number is EP39841, so EP is the 1925-1926 Big Six. However the car has some features that I umderstand are from 1927: front wheels mechanical brakes and two piece folding windshield (botton part is missing). The rumble seat has wood arms, available in 1926 and 1927. Disc wheels with 6 lugs. Cowll lights seem to be wrong. The books I have demonstrate the puzzle on the year identification for 1926/27. The engine number is quite high, so it could be an EP late model. I think it is 1927, because the front brakes, but I would appreciate your inputs. Thanks, Julio
studeq
That is a pretty rare car. I used to own one, serial 2099681 and engine #EP40809, see image below. The serial range for all EP Big Sixes was 2060001 to 2102300, engine # range EP1 to EP40809 They were produced from August 1924 thru July 1926.The roadster body however was not introduced until early 1925. You may find a number on the firewall. You might be able to get an idea as to when you car was assembled by checking the letter number series on the side of the engine block. It would likely start with the letter F. Send that sequence and I will give you the approx. date of production. Cars with 2 wheel brakes had wood spoke wheels. Those with the disc wheels had 4-wheel brakes. I have a roster of all known '26 EP roadsters. This roster shows 11 survivors (12 with yours). Not all are complete and running about half are restored. I have lots of literature on the cars.
JRA
Thanks a lot, Studeq! Based on your information, it became clear to me that the car is 1926. I am out of town, so when I am back I will search for letter number series. About the folding windshield, any comment.? Regarding the EP model, do you know a good source of parts? I am looking for the set for the steering column (horn button and levers), inspection light with power cord that is inserted to the dashboard, botton part of the windshield, among others, extra disc wheel... Could you please share more pictures of EP rodsters? I need good references to use on the restauration. My email is: julioalbernaz@hotmail.com thanks a lot, again! bifda
I have a steering column set for your car, but I am in England. I would sell it and can post overseas if required. If interested in the horn and lever arrangement let me know and I will get some photos for you. It has the stator tube attached, but that maybe hard to post. JRA
Hi Oldford, I believe that based on engine number and car external characteristics, it is a 1926 automobile. Aren’t your headlights for 1927 cars? Regarding to parts, I am looking for: - one disc wheel complete with rim, 20” diameter. - dashboard inspection lamp assembly - bottom part of the folding windshield. Any help offered will be very much appreciated. oldford
Headlights, to my knowledge were used on 1927 big sixes. I have seen some 1926 big sixes with this same headlight...
Peter P
That is a very unusual gauge panel on the dash. It looks a lot like the No. 2 dash configuration that was used in the standard Six Studebakers between 1925 & '26 with the exception of the round hole at the top of yours. A photo of the dash that was in my old Standard Six ER Hardtop Duplex Coupe is attached.

Guest
This might make it easier to see. I still do not understand why people cannot rotate photos so they are right side up.
JRA
Any idea of detailed pictures of the 2-piece windshield shown in the first photo? It should be an option in 1926 and 1927 Big Sixes.
