61polara
Pull towards you and up when you are in neutral. If you can find neutral, confirm that you are able to move to the forward position. If it is stiff, oil the bearing just under the shifter,
Rusty_OToole
Adjustment of gearshift linkage according to factory manual. The adjustment is made under the hood where the shift rods attach to the levers coming out of the column. Adjustment of the gear shifter control rod between the steering column and transmission is made as follows. 1) Loosen stud nut on upper lever at lower end of steering column, 2) Make certain that transmission gears are in neutral position and that gearshift lever is set at a horizontal position. then tighten lock bolt. Adjustment of the gear selector rod is made as follows. 1) Make certain that the gears in the transmission are in the neutral position. 2)Loosen lock nut on selector rod at bottom of steering column, then tighten nut until all play is removed from rod, and back nut off 1/2 turn for clearance. 3) Tighten lock nut. Not in the manual but you might want to check for wear, loose bushings etc before you do the adjustment. c49er
The reverse adj. on early M-6 1949 -50 Chrysler transmissions can be located either at the transmission shifter cover of at the shift rod at the fire wall... If you over adjust too much one way or the other you will not be able to get reverse or too far the other way no forward....just remove the excess slop in the rod... no more.
