GasWorksGarage
Hello, how much vacuum at idle should the pump generate? Also I do not see anyplace for the vacuum hose from the wiper motor to hook to the intake manifold. Does anyone have a picture? Thanks in advance. 48Super
The vacuum source for the wipers comes directly from a port on the vacuum pump. The picture (1948 Super engine) shows the vacuum line routing from the wiper motor. Sorry it does not clearly show the metal line from the fuel pump along the engine. At the wiper motor there is a short piece of vacuum hose that connects to a steel tube that goes down along the firewall and connects to a second short piece of vacuum hose. The second hose connects to the steel tube that goes behind the distributor and threads into to the vacuum port fitting on the pump. Hope this helps. So It doesn't hook to the intake it is directly to the pump. thanks, does anyone know how much vacuum is created by the pump?

Joseph P. Indusi
On both my 53 and 48 Special, the intake manifold vacuum pipe goes from the intake manifold to the vacuum section on the fuel pump, and then a pipe goes from the other fitting on the vacuum pump to the firewall, thence to the wiper switch and then to the wiper motor. The vacuum pump section on the fuel pump acts as a kind of booster when the engine vacuum is low such as when going up a hill. GasWorksGarage
Ok so I finally found the vacuum port in the manifold. Someone had put a 1/4-20 bolt in it. So was this port treaded from the factory? If so where can I find a vacuum tree to crew back in it? Thanks in advance.

Guest
The fitting was probably just 1/8 pipe thread tee. If a person screwed in a stove bolt they may have messed up the pipe threads. Your local NAPA should have the part, it is just a standard brass fitting.
