Nobody gave you a response. Let me try.

It's because the performance crowd is into late '60's-early 70's GS and mid 80's GN cars.

Your year car just doesn't register with most Buick performance enthusiasts.

I agree with your friends - if it's a nice 1976 survivor - keep it original and drive it and enjoy it. Kind of like Ford Mustang II owners. If you want a high performing Buick then save up and buy the cars mentioned above.

Check with JEGs, JC Whitney or Summit.

The biggest challenge will by headers the Buick 8v or 6v is not extremely

popular but they are made, Kenne Belle was big in to buicks in '70-'90's.

The exhuast pipes will be easy. Anyone with a Chevelle, Monty or Malibu

can tell you on sound and places to get them. It's the same frame as the above

mentioned cars. You could even use the crossmember from one of those.

I would go with 2.5 inch exhaust and Flowmaster Delta flow mufflers. Delta flows don't drone as much, according to flowmaster. Other considerations are Turbo Mufflers, and Spintech mufflers. As far as location of crossover pipe, the proper way to do it is to put a strip of paint on pipes and look for where the paint burns off. The spot where it burns off is where you locate the cross over pipe. Of course most shops will just locate it out of the way of the transmisson, and their is nothing wrong with that.

Putting duels on the car is a VERY reversible operation of somebody down the road buys it and wants to set it back to a fully stock resto. I'd go for it, and check out the speed shops memtioned to see what they have. I'd also do a search on speed equipment for Buicks in this forum, and I think you'll find some names (TA or Poston ????) that might help....but do the search and I'm sure you'll find the Buick specialists....then there's always the 'ol Ken Belle parts that I think is still around too...

Just keep the original manifold, pipes (if they're worth keeping that is...), and crossmember for either yourself if you decide to change back, or for the next owner. Good luck and have fun with the 'ol "Bui-hog" !!!

these cars came from the factory with dual exhausts so i wouldn't be to concerned. in a related experience, i went into the local midas shop and asked what the charge would be to put a set with turbos on my 73 century and the kid behind the counter looked at me as if i were speaking greek. i actually had to explain that i wanted two exhaust pipes, mufflers and tail pipes from the engine on back and that there was actually room for it. then she wanted to charge me extra for the "fancy" custom work, even after i told her it was a pretty common thing. actually had to get the manager to find out what i wanted to know.

I too brought my 71 LeSabre to Midas to get dual turbos put on. They did it with no questions, but the job was absolutely awful. I Complained to their corporate office and ended up getting a completely new system with 3" chrome tips thrown in for nothing. I love my duals now! The only problem I have with them is that they drone really bad at about 1500 rpm (35-40 mph).

I think I ended up going back to the original midas about 10 times with problems on the initial install. You have no idea how pissed I was about the whole thing. Make sure you know that the guy installing the duals knows what the hell he is doing!!!!

Here's a funny story, I wanted duals on my '60 so I went around and got some advice from local speed shops about where to take the car. The price quotes I received were (in my opinion, outrageous!) I said to myself, "I could go, buy a welder, some elbows, and some tubing, build it myself and have money left over!... well, after about $1K and 2 months laying under the car, I've got duals. They ARE pretty fancy though, they don't rattle, and I could only be pissed at myself for not doing a good job.

That's a heck of an undertaking (literally!)...I think I ended up paying around $400 for my duals (including the 3" tips). The original bid from Midas was $308. That seemed like the going rate at the time. I don't know that I could trust myself installing a set of duals. I would love to get a set of flowmasters thrown on there before I get rid of the car. There's nothing like the sound of a big V8!

rtabish, dual exhausts weren't available after 1975 on any GM passenger car, but 73-74 A-body crossmembers will fit 75-77 and allow the installation.

Yes- in her hearing, you WERE speaking Greek. If you had said "catalytic converter" or "flex-joint" she'd have known what you were talking about. If you'd wanted a big shiny muffler with a four-inch tailpipe, I ga-ron-tee she'd have understood perfectly <img src="/ubbthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif" alt="" /> !

I haven't had very good experiences at Midas shops. Like Adam, I had to take a Toronado back half a dozen times for rattles and leaks. Finally got tired of it and took it to a local shop where an 18-year-old exhaust wizard (now 24) put new pipes on from engine to bumper with nary a leak or rattle, and all bends, flats etc done right. The kid's daddy taught him right, and I think he's a better exhaust man than his dad was.
