1955 Firewall cover finish

What is everyone using for the firewall covers? It looks like undercoating but I am sure there are other methods that give the same look. I have them blasted, primed and coated with semi-gloss so they are ready for some texture.

I think the air box plenums were coated with some kind of rubber under coating or something similar to insulate the engine heat for cool air. The boxes I've scraped at the junkyard reminds me of the same stuff I scraped from one of my fenders.

I used several coats of black crinkle paint to do mine.  I think it looks close to what Buick did.  You can find it at most hardware stores.

That is what I used, but would consider Lizard Skin Coating (done by someone else since it is not just a rattle can).

I googled it. Looks good. I say almost anything except smooth painted metal will be fine.............Bob
