John_Mereness
151 uses the Detroit 4 speed as a carry over from 1930 (unit was also used on Stutz, but Stutz has some minor case difference I believe). I want to say all the parts (lift handle, shaft, and cover piece) are plated, but do not recall if a bright nickle or a satin chrome. And, I have seen a few that appeared bright chrome (wondered if this was an "open" car thing, as well as a few that appeared original with black shift levers and bright plated lift handles and cover). 29 franklin
Hi John, my 151 has the 3 speed . I found the correct finish is " butler silver " which is really not done anymore. I am going to have it chrome plated. Thank you
mikewest
Butler silver is easy enough to achieve. Ive had this finish applied by two top notch plating shops before. Hear is the process.... #1 Have the stick Chrome or Bright nickel plated . #2 Use a 3m scotch pad after plating and rub the stick. It will knock down the finish to BUTLER! Im serious ..That's all it is.
