keithb7 Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Hi folks. Could some please let me know proper torque values for 1928 DB Standard Six: - Main wheel retainer nut on axle shaft. - Carriage bolts with square shoulder that hold brake drums to wood spoke rims. Much appreciated. Thanks.
Ron Lawson Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Keith, Back when these oldies were made there were no torque values The main retainer nut would be tightened up enough to take movement out of the front wheel bearings just the same as on a modern vehicle The rear wheel is done up tight Do NOT put any lubrication on the taper before installing the wheel Make sure the taper is clean with no burrs so that the taper seats well Some people I know put the wheel puller on the hub with the bolt removed and hit that with a copper head hammer to ensure the taper is seated The hub bolts were originally fitted tightened and then center punched to stop them from coming loose
Spinneyhill Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 For your interest, on my 1930 Dodge 8, the axle nut holding the rear drum on the tapered axle is 140 lb.ft.
keithb7 Posted November 21, 2017 Author Posted November 21, 2017 (edited) Thanks folks. I like the 140 ft lb number. Sounds about right based on the size of that nut. Any guesses on the brake drum nuts? I'm thinking 50 ft lbs maybe? Edited November 21, 2017 by keithb7 (see edit history)
Wheelmang Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 You may try google for torque values. I have a chart found there that lists values based on thread size.
