Ok so I got the timming cover off my 1925 Chrysler 65 and yuk what a mess things need a good clean up. Any way have a look at the pictures the timming chain looks pretty worn to me. What I would like to know is how tight should it be? What are the replacement options/ comparability with other models etc and do I need to replace the gears too. Any way thanks in advance for any help

The mess is the result of using non-additive (or poor-additive) oil.

Looking at the large sprocket, it looks like the chain pitch is greater than the sprocket teeth pitch. New set required.

Chrysler 65, 66, 70 had chain number 2568 in my catalog. Pitch 0.5", width 1.25", links 49. No others in the 1934 catalog have that chain number.

A number of CDPD vehicles had the same pitch and width but 48 links.

Thanks for all the info Spinneyhill yeah who knows what oil has been in this engine I have only owned it for a short while, the timming chain cover didn't look like it had been removed in some decades. Any way will give it all a big clean up and try and track down a new chain I don't think I will find sprokets as well. C49er I checked out O'Reilly's they don't seem to go earlier then 1940. Any other suggestions on a source for these parts or other things I should be doing at this stage appreciated
