32Pontiac6 Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 I am needing to restore the running board rubber on my 1932 Pontiac Sport Coupe. The running boards are in good shape as is the outside trim piece. I just need the new rubber. I have attached a few photos of the boards to show the pattern. Note the fourth photo that shows the bottom of the running board and the holes where the rubber seems to be pressed through to hold the rubber to the board. Questions: 1). Does this rubber look similar to any other early 30's GM cars? 2). Has anybody restored the running board mat on a '32 Pontiac? 3). Any suggestions on rubber suppliers? Any help with this will be greatly appreciated. Rob
Curti Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 There is a number of running board rubber suppliers. Go to Google and enter running board rubber. Rand Broadstreet and Huntly Acuff among others will come up
36 D2 Coupe Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 I have had Hunley Acuff do running boards for me. He does excellent work. I don't know if he has patterns for the '32 Pontiac but if you sent him your originals, he could likely duplicate them. The old rubber gets stripped off the cores and new rubber is bonded to them The holes are anchors to help hold the bonded rubber to the steel core.
32Pontiac6 Posted April 19, 2017 Author Posted April 19, 2017 Thanks for the input. I will explore these options today.
Restorer32 Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Expect to spend $1000+ to have them done as original.
vintagerodshop Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 (edited) I have purchased from Rand Broadstreet. Excellent to deal with. Edited April 29, 2017 by vintagerodshop (see edit history)
