PA. Antique Plate transfer

I am purchasing a car locally and it still has the old purple PA. plate. My 1937 Buick received one when I bought it in 1987. I would like to have the car retitled in my name with the old plate. Can this be done? I remember going to the sale at Millersburg in 2010. After a car was sold then they would sell the Purple plate separately.

I believe that it used to be that the plates were registered in the owners name and the owner could retain the plates indefinitely to be used on other cars or the plate could be transferred to a new owner. I still have my purple plate from 1984 and when I sold that vehicle, I was not asked to return or transfer the plate.  Maybe the laws have changed: I'm not sure, but I think that you can just transfer that plate to the new vehicle. I'd like to find out too, as I intend to reuse the plate on my "36 Dodge when complete.

I think you can transfer but you have to pay the full fee again, $75 if I remember correctly.

You have to sign a release to allow the new owner to use the tag and pay the fee as noted by Restorer32.

As long as the seller is willing, it can be transferred, but as stated all normal fees are charged.
