Frieda 1935
I have Delco-Lovejoy #1739 frozen front lever shocks on my 1935 Plymouth PJ. There was no oil in them when I removed the filler caps. Any ideas on how to loosen them ? Thank you, Richard
jpage
Probably best to disassemble them as much as you can and clean then out or send them to a rebuilder but that may get expensive.
Mark Gregory
It is very expensive to have them rebuilt about $225 plus shipping each I have heard . I believe it is Apple hydraulics in NY .It is going to be more expensive if you start breaking the castings trying to take them apart and buying new shocks .The Jalopy Journal had some good articles about how to break them or do it right . Google the subject .Here is link to a discussion on the AACA a few years ago . http://forums.aaca.org/topic/136203-lever-shock-leak-cure/If you look at the shocks they look like a door closer on a Fire Door . Hudsy Wudsy
You might also just go to the Jalopy Journal and place an add in "Parts Wanted" that you are looking for one that isn't frozen. I'm afraid that guys are street rodding these cars constantly. Most of the stock suspension is replaced with Mustang II stuff, so a mere shock shouldn't be difficult to find. I pretty sure that '36s are identical, but there is a difference between he Deluxe (P2 model) and the standard (P1). The P1s are single action and have a simpler link to the spring attaching point, while the P2s are double acting and have different, more substantial link. I assume that '35s are similar, but there are a lot of subtle differences between the two years. You'll have to ask questions, or ask for a picture. jpage
I the '36's are the same, and I don't know that, I might have a couple lying around. Check it out and let me know. Jim
Hudsy Wudsy
No, P1s are a single action shock with a solid rod link much like a simple sway bar link. P2 shocks are dual action and use a cushioning link like Dodges used. However, I don't have any experience with '35s, which could be different.
