ILIKECARS53
Hey Jeff, What do the initials KPI mean?
Guest Jeff k
KPI means King Pin Inclination... The modern term is SAI or steering axis inclination.. It's built into the spindles to aid steering wheel return and give a more positive on center feel.. The 65 up big Pontiacs are suppose to have more then the 4.5 degrees the 64 down have.. Guest Rp1967
If you had said SAI you would have received more input.KPI is an old term even for those cars as king pins were out of fashion by 10 years.I will look tonight I have some service info from the "wide track" era. Guest Jeff k
Thanks 67... So far the numbers I have are; 1963-64 4.75.. 1965-66 8.75.. That would explain why the 65 up big Pontiacs had such a clean, crisp feel to them compared to the older ones.. The smaller, egg shaped steering wheel and veri-ratio box also helped.. Guest Rp1967
Sorry for the delay jeff just saw the old chilton manual and it jarred my memory. It shows 4.5 for 1964 and 8.5 for 65 and later. And I will eat some crow it still Calls it King Pin Inclination.
