Rogillio
Well, not totally lost but cracked really bad. How do I find a 1927 B series motor head? Mine has a bad crack and machinist is not optimistic he can fix it. How do I find another head?

countrytravler
Would need more complete pictures with applications and dimensions. I'm looking for a used one. What does it go to and engine size? How wide and long?
Rogillio
It is out of a 1927 series DB Coupe, B series engine. The machinist has the head so I don't have dimensions. I'm just looking for a ball park number.....would it be closer to $500 or $1500..or more?
RickBrinker
Check with Myers Early Dodge parts 734-856-1207 He will probably have one.
Rogillio
Thanks. I called and he is gonna go look and see if they have one and call me back.. I got my carb kit, plugs, wires and a few other things from Meyers but would never have thought to ask about the head. Fingers crossed.
Rogillio
Rick, thanks again for the suggestion! The have the head. I just bought it for $85 plus shipping. My mechanic is having the other one welded said we would have the machine shop check it out and magnafluxed and then we'd use the best one and save the other one for a spare. No idea what magnafluxed is but it sounds cool. :-).

hwellens
Is the water jacket on top flat or sloped?
Rogillio
Is the water jacket on top flat or sloped?I dont know. They asked only about the distributor on the top of head or side of block and where the coil mounts.
hwellens
It looks like the one you have mounts the coil to it. I have a head, but, I think it is for an earlier Dodge.
R.White
hwellens. Yes that head is different from Rogillio's and mine although both horn brackets are still held by head studs and nuts in the middle of the head. The book shows the coil mounted on the left side of the engine but I have utilised the two small holes on the right (present on later heads) to mount a neat 'L' shaped bracket and the coil is attached to the front of it. The bracket acts as a heat shield for the coil which is also cooled by the fan. No advantage cooking the coil at the hottest point of the engine!Ray. Rogillio
Ray, can post a picture of the coil bracket you made? Mine is just a pieve of metal strapping holding the coil on the head....not pretty and I think I can do better.
R.White
I see what you mean! You definitely can do better!I went to use my camera and the battery has gone flat so can't send you a pic until I have bought some more.Nothing to see really; just an 'L' shape bracket from sheet metal bolted to the head utilising the two small holes near the end. In my case they were already threaded so I just used them. I like to keep things original but if the original design looks wrong......Ray.
