John_S_in_Penna
I was just speaking with someone in the editorial departmentof Amos Press, publisher of several hobby magazines.CARS & PARTS will soon be coming back!I don't know much more; but the venerable magazine, whichhad been melded with others and renamed "Auto Enthusiast,"will soon be Cars & Parts once again. All the best to them! We can always use more car researchand more car articles--and more enthusiastic hobbyists--in this broad field. Does anyone know any more than this? John_S_in_Penna
Boy, there was a lot of comment when that titlewas disappearing--giving thoughts on what was good and not-so-good about the magazine. Now that it's coming back, there's no discussion? TerryB
I purchased it for many years and enjoyed the cars and other information featured in it. Good luck to them as it would be great to have them back in this digital age. I still like holding and reading a magazine instead of an e-reader.Terry in PA
trimacar
Guess we need to see what the new publication looks like to comment....seems most of the old car mags are including resto-mods and outright hot rods, things a lot of us appreciate the workmanship on but don't want to spend money reading about.... john2dameron
I would love to see it come back. They used to have a great contest where you would solve a puzzle by answering questions about antique cars. The answers were found by reading the articles of the magazine. I won twice and still have my "Cars & Parts" T-shirt.I amassed several of the tee-shirts. Some of them featured the '57 Chevy they called "Peggy Sue". some featured muscle cars and it seems some of them featured a Ford. I wore them at work. John_S_in_Penna
Dave at Moon mentioned that it looks like it may belittle more than a title change from the current "Auto Enthusiast."I never saw that later magazine. How did Auto Enthusiast differfrom the heyday of "Cars and Parts?"
trimacar
If you go to the website, you can see the last edition of Auto Enthusiast (upper right hand corner, "digital edition")....in which it's discussed changing to Cars and Parts...and see if what's there is to your liking... John_S_in_Penna
Thanks, Trimacar. That "digital edition" of the last Auto Enthusiastwas almost wholly devoted to speed, performance, and muscle--very good if you like muscle cars, but there was very little else.Their article on GM's high energy ignition in the 1970's was interesting. In that digital issue, they say, "The Cars & Parts you see in 2014 willhave a little bit of the old [Cars & Parts], but a lot of the new, exciting material that's just begging to be seen." If they think that only high-performance automobiles are "exciting," I'd pass on their magazine. But who knows? They might get the message that there's a lot moreto the 100-year history of the automobile than just the muscle years of the '60's.
John_S_in_Penna
Curiously, while their automotive title(s) have been struggling, their weekly publication, Coin World, is doing well. It's by farthe pre-eminent publication in the coin-collecting field and isread and supported by most of the top names in that field. An analogy to Coin World's in-depth reporting would be the Ford family writing a weekly column for an automotive publication. Guest WEB 38
Lets hope they don't ruin it like Old Cars Weekly did. Bill
Jim Bollman
Got a whole stack of the bumper stickers they use to give away at Hershey. Use to always stop by to get the latest one. Put the first few years on the back of a little trailer I hauled, then got a van and stopped bring the trailer.
