53buickconvert
Hi all,Has anyone restored gauges from a '53 Buick? I have had to take the front bezel off all my gauges to have replated. During this process I noticed that the clear type brown tinted paint on the back ground of my speedo was really beginning to flake off. Any suggestions on how to refinish this. The pics show the gauge along with a spare that I cleaned off down to the metal. Like I said it has a brown tint but shows the metal "swirl" below. Thanks,Tim

old-tank
Probably need to have some clear paint tinted to match...welcome to the world of restoration where you can spend 10 hours and $$$$ on one tiny detail .
D Yaros
Would not the simple/easiest thing to do be to spray the dial with a clear coat of some time. That would encapsulate what is there and stop the flaking, would it not?
53buickconvert
I could spray a clear coat to stop the flaking, but with part of it already flaked off, it would not look very good. A tinted clear coat may be the best way to go.

60FlatTop
This show has been canceled but I would guess they could do it with a lot of hype, BS, and arm waving. Of course it would be scary whether the deadline would be met, right up to the last minute: Edited October 25, 2013 by 60FlatTop (see edit history)
