Hello I'm new here. Glad to find this forum with other fans of Rivera's

The first time I saw a Rivera I wanted one. The one I saw was a 65 and that was like 15-18years ago. Well Finally got one of my own. This past Saturday I picked a 64 and I am excited and happy to have it. I got a lot to learn about Rivi's. Now I got my own to help get me started down that path. It's in pretty decent shape. It's a California car no Rust and no major issues. Just needs some love and a few things done to it.post-96619-143142205019_thumb.jpg

Congratulations on a great car. I'm sure you'll really enjoy owning and driving it. It looks like a real time capsule for the way things were originally. Do yourself a favor, turn your battery around so the positive post is not close to the fender or the edge of the hood. There are more out there than me who can tell you what happens with the positive post of a battery touches the body of a car. It would make The Colonel envious. The positive cable came from the factory on the radiator side and ran across the top of the battery. If you don't like the looks of that cable lying on the battery, find a Group 27F battery. If you put the positive post closest to the radiator the post will be on the back of the battery.

Anyone seen one of these before and know what it is ? Found it under the hood next to the motor in a clamp or clamped down. The bottle was of course covered in dirt and grease. There was a label but it was also covered in dirt and grease and very flimsy. Couldn't read what was written on it other than "caution" The fluid inside the bottle smells like turpentine.

All you need is the correct label for the bottle and some blue fluid to put in it. As I said earlier, your car is a time capsule of what the car was like originally.

http://www.oldbuickparts.com/catalog/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=optikleen+label&x=0&y=0

You could even add a cap that has the "Optikleen" more visable.

The solvent in this bottle was originally a concentrate and you'd add it to some water then put the mix in the washer reservoir.

Thanks Guys for all your responses. As I stated above this is all new to me and I got a lot to learn. So it's great to have a place to converse with folks who have been down this road that I'm now traveling on. I kinda of figured the bottle cap did describe what it is. But I've never seen or heard of a bottle like that before. That goes for my buddy too he is a true motorhead but he as well has never come across one of those before in his years. I want and am and will be looking for manuals.

Thanks again everyone for your input

Does anyone know or can anyone tell me what this toggle looking switch/button does or is for?post-96619-143142209645_thumb.jpg

Not the one that says "vent" but the silver looking switch? I've seen other pics online of Rivi's under the dash/column and it had it too? IT appears to be attached to a cable.

Here is a few pics. It's all I got for now. I will take more tomorrow. But this will give you an idea of what's been going on with my Rivi. The factory cig lighter under the flip up door on the console didn't work. So took out the cig lighter and the ashtray. Made a bracket to mount my display/controller to sit there. The flip door fully functional, so with the door down the console still looks stock as it conseals my display/controller.

Looks good Dialtone. Which airbags did you use (front & rear)?

Ride tech Shockwaves in the front, bags in the rear. If I had to do it over again(I will when it comes time to replaces the shockwaves) Instead of the shockwaves in the front. I would just pick up some big bags like 2600lb and put those in the front. I went with the shockwaves because from what I could find online of other people bag'n their Rivi's. There's no room to relocate the front shock cleanly IMO. But when it comes time when I need to replace the shockwaves , I am going buy big bags and mount them in the front and not use front shocks.

I used 4 ply bags on the front of my F-100(Camaro clip) without shocks and ran it like that for over a year. It rode pretty nice without too much 'bounce' until I hit a double dip at highway speed. Then it wasn't pretty. Put some light duty shocks on and it really tamed it.

Thanks I'm happy with it. It's cool I can change the height by a push of a button. Also no more body roll when cornering. So that's a big unexpected +

So I have been trying to get familiar with air ride set up in my Rivi. Worked out a few kinks. I've never had a bag'd vehicle before. Anyways I was taking my Riv for a drive a few days ago and not more than 2-3miles away from home and the left front height sensor on my air ride display goes out. So I turn around headed home and parked the car a little bummed the sensor went out. But it's not that big of a deal easy fix had to fix the right front height sensor the day prior to that. Come to find out later I was sure lucky the height senor went out. If the height sensor had never went out. I wouldn't of went home and parked and would of been driving. The cause of the left front height senor going out has nothing to do with the right front tiring coming apart.

Check out the pics of the right front tire off my Rivi. Looks like in one more minute the tire was about to come apart.

Wow! Looks like you caught that tire just in time. Someone was looking out for ya.

Curious...what is the issue with the shockwaves? I know very little about air ride systems, but I've been pondering it lately. What about the shockwaves makes the standard bag more desireable? Reliability? Ride quality? Cost? Thanks.

Well I haven't had issue with the shockwaves. So I didn't mean there is a problem with them. They do cost more than a standard bag. I believe a set of shockwaves was $800. A set = 2 Shockwaves I think my rear bags were less than half that.

In a few years the bags and shockwaves will have to be replaced. Bags are cheaper to replace

Those tire pix remind me of a bad retread tire job. Could they have been retreads?

David

They could be I don't really know. They came with the car and just like everything else on the car they looked old. But they had a lot of tread left on them. So I was just going to rock them for as long as I could. Well only got 4months out of them. Luckily for me the tire never blew tho it was going too very soon. The tire was still holding air when it was taken off my Rivi and replaced with the spare. Tho The air was let out of the unraveling tire before removing the lugs just in case

he runs the shock in front, but I have post-82053-143142370237_thumb.jpgseen a shock tucked in on the back side of the control arm, just add tabs to the chassis & upper a-arm....I may have a pic somewhere, saw it on the web

Slacker, I've seen and read that thread before on the hamb. I pm'd the guy on the hamb. I want his wheels ! He did a great job and I like his Rivi. The bags he used in the front the 2600lb is what I will put up front on my Riv when it comes time to replace the shockwaves. I just don't like the shock placement.Even tho it's good. I wont relocate my front shocks when I put 2600lb bags in the front. I'm just going to go shock less up front with big bags
