Terry Bond
Had these badges in my collection and always wondered about the story behind them. Does anybody know what they were used for? I've not seen many of them around. Pretty nice stuff-bet they would cost a bundle to produce today! The valentine is a cutie I picked up recently.Terry
keiser31
I believe the Elks Club was showing the automobiles on the pins because of the traveling involved to "reunite".
TheMoneyPit
Not to mention both are from Detroit - which was not the "Auto Capital" at the time but I'm sure it had high hopes in 1910 of becoming what it is today... Or was anyway.
TG57Roadmaster
Terry,The canoe image is likely Antoine de la Mothe, sieur de Cadillac, founder of Detroit, meeting the natives. The BPOE held their Grand Reunion in Detroit, July 11-15, 1910, at the Hotel Pontchartrain at Cadillac Square. There are many results to a google search for that reunion.TG
Terry Bond
Yes, the scene is exactly as you described. I was curious about the two badges since the are both different yet from the same convention. I'm guessing one is an official delegate badge and the other is just a momento of the occasion? Are there any other different badges like these from that convention or do I have the whole "set" of them?
TG57Roadmaster
Terry,From the brief google search that included some ebay links, it looks as though the various lodges (or state delegates) had unique badges. I'd say you have part of a "set," but that many more exist. The same way that cities and towns gave Good Roads/Glidden Tour participants different pinbacks and ribbons when they came to town.Happy hunting!TG
