Guest sintid58
Headed to deliver in Detroit today with a load we picked up in Brawley Ca and the truck decided to shut down about 15 miles from our delivery along Mi hwy 14 right during the start of rush hour. Spent 2 hours along the road without heat waiting for the wrecker to pull us to the Volvo dealer in Livonia Michigan and we've been sitting in the "drivers lounge" since about 9AM waiting for them to get us fixed. Now can'tt deliver until tomorrow am for sure. 11,000 miles in 11 days and then sit for the past 2 days on 250 miles. We delivered yesterday morning in Chicago and the stop in Detroit wouldn't take us until 6 this morning and then we broke down here. Hopefully it's nothing too major and we will be running soon.,I figured we were too far from Flint to visit the old guy and Roberta so stuck here for the night with nothing we can get to do. With the big truck, most places don't like to see 18 wheelers pulling in and the fuel mileage driving around the country to see things is prohibitive. Oh well this is all part of the business, you just never get used to it. Tina got to ride up in the wrecker cab with the heater and Gracey Allen (out Westie) and I got to stay in the bunk of the truck covered up with blankets for the trip behind the wrecker. It cost the company $470 to tow the truck 15 miles which actually isn't to bad for towing the tractor and trailer together considering they had to drop the driveshaft and do some other things before they towed it. RICK YOUNG
Just curious Sid. Was it the emissions system? A 2008, would that be Interim TIER IV?Stay warm.
Guest sintid58
They got us running around 5 yesterday afternoon. Yes it was part of the emission system that shut us down Rick. Some wires had rubbed threw that ran to the Diesel Particulate Filter and that sent a false code that it was over full shutting the engine down. Fixing these wires seems to also have fixed a couple other electrical gremlins the truck had also. Now we have to wait until 11:30 for our new appointment today to get unloaded. We should have been home by now for a day or so off and then left on Saturday for the west coast but instead we are sitting here and now won't get home until early tomorrow morning. Are we having fun yet, such is life on the road.
