I found this in Miami, if anyone is interested I will arrange to go look at the car and take pics, drive it, etc. I do not know anything about the seller or car.

Hey Padgett, I hear they say 5 is better than 4.

Richard.

I called the number and it turns out to be a used car dealer in Hialeah, that is in the north end of town where there are at least 100 buy here, pay here dealers. When I asked when I could come see the car I was told to call back when the owner was there. When I called back I still could not get a straight answer on VIN, when I could see the car and since I was born here 50+ years ago and have never seen a hill or mountian shown in the background I was told that may have been a "beauty" shot of a different car. If any one is still interested he told he would have the VIN and when I could look at it tomorrow.

If it looks too good to be true...

UPDATE 7 PM 1/24

I just went back to the site and now it is a Vehix listing and says it is a private seller, not a dealer. Stay tuned for more info.

I predict that it will actually be a rusted out Levi's edition Gremlin hatchback (with the denim upholstered seats). Wait, maybe it's really a LeCar, lavender with the purple rocker graphics.

Too much, uh, strangeness about this listing.

Do let us know what you find out, I am curious - and no, not because I want to buy it rest assured.

I received no call or email from the "seller" The phone number has been disconected.

Hey, I would like a stock Gremlin with nice paint, no rust, A/C, power brakes, steering and auto. I think my old car illness is getting worse.

Always thought they started out to make a real car and suddenly stopped. Of course I also always thought a 65 Rambler American coupe was once of the nicest designs around, almost as nice as a 54 Studebaker Starlight.

Just as well it did not pan out, am out of license plates.

I guess as long as this post has been hyjacked I will add to it.

Back when Gremlins were fairly new I was going to a Western Electric school in Denver and staying at the Holiday Inn on Colorado Blvd.

On the driveway coming out of the motel onto Colorado Blvd was a small dip in the edge of the road so rain water could run down the edge of the street. A Gremlin was leaving the motel and stopped with the front tires in that depression waiting for traffic and when it went to leave it couldn't, as the transmission was slipping so bad it couldn't get out of that 6 inch drainway. We had to walk over and give it a push so the owner could continue on his way.

This is one of those times that if it seems too good to be true then it is. Does the picture look like Miami? I have seen this same car with the same photo advertised elsewhere and the price was a more realistic 9,500 or so.

One thing to keep in mind...in December I had posted on the Buick General forum after a friend sent me an e-mail. Apparently our '52 Buick Roadmaster was for sale in the Charlotte area. They had grabbed a photo of the car from my personal web site. It made me angry, particularly since they just had to grab a photo with my wife in it. One of the guys on the forum phoned him up, chatted about the car he didn't own, and after a while toying with him, let the guy have it...it didn't seem to faze the guy though...either has a similar car with no photos, or is too stupid to realize that folks were on to him.

It is just proof that scam sales appear on the Internet on a regular basis.

Well they do show up occasionally. That is about what I paid for the black/grey 'vert with the usual needs (cosmetics, headlamp motors rebuild, tires, etc) & just over 100k miles (Doug has seen it). Only reason was no need for even a wire brush and rustolium underneath, really better than the white car when I bought it. Problem is insufficient round tuits. Just rebuilding the headlamp motors took four evenings and this morning. Nice part is all headlight motor bolts and headlight rim screws removed easily (and added SilverStars while at it). And now that I understand Jim's method, letting of blood may no longer be necessary.
