Water Pump and Fan?

I agree, Model A Ford with an after market fan. Good catch on that packing nut. The originals were brass. The original fan was only two blades, and resembled an airplane prop. They were prone to cracking near the hub, and many were replaced. Also, the 4 bladed version moved a little more air. Dandy Dave!

Dave, so true about the original fans cracking. Quite a few of them broke a blade off and it destroyed the radiator, or left a dent in the hood, or both. Sadly, this is still happening today to unsuspecting owners. Original fans are a must for judging, but can be risky for touring.

'29 was the last year for the brass packing nut. Subsequent ones were of a zink alloy.

I still think it's a replacement packing nut, the originals had bigger spaced notches to tighten it with a spanner wrench. It was probably off a doodlebug to explain the red paint.

As we said, it is a steel aftermarket replacement nut. Dandy Dave!
