430 Oil Pan

The 67 Riv 430 Oil Pan - does it have a rear sump or is the sump toward the middle of the pan like the 63 -65 Riv nailheads ? Thanks ,<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

Dick,

The oil pump on the 430 is located up front on the right side as the distributor is located in the front.

I have a guy that is putting in a 430 into a 66 riv. ??? He says the oil pan sump is in the rear and wont work with the steering ??

The sump is a bit more towards the front. Not quite centered but a little off center to the front. This pic from a 67 may help.

There's a "parts necessary' write-up (#14 in Engine and Driveline by Darwin Falk) in the Tech Tips section -Member's Only - of the Riview that covers a 430/455 swap into a '66.

One thing not mentioned in the write up is the drag link. The '66 drag link was a '66 only/Riviera only item. The new 2nd generation chassis and the pan on the nailhead were not compatible. A new drag link was necessary. Your customer will probably have to find a 67-70 drag link to work with the pan on the 430.
