Guest 75RivGS
Made it to Las Vegas from Yosemite today.... Those last 100mls on the 96 were terrible without the AC (a hot summer for us is like low 80's...we're just not used to these temperatures yet)Don't have to charge R12: the clutch of the AC isn't engaging... The Electra is doing very well so far.
JohnD1956
Two possibilities on the clutch. First is the dashboard switch may have burnt points. Had this on my 69 but I know the 72 switch is a bit different. The other thing is the compressor may not turn on if the system became discharged. Look at the top of the inside of the hood and see if you have the tell tale overspray of compressor oil across the insulation. Also check the condensor in front of the radiator and look at the corners to see if you have an oil spot there. While looking won't fix either problem, it will give you an idea of what you're up against price wise.Good luck.
Guest 75RivGS
John, checked the inside of the hood and the condensor... but no oil. The discoloration of the AC pulley shows the clutch is burned
Dandy Dave
I Hereby nominate Rob for the hard luck Award, if there is one. Tires, plug wires, coil wires, and now AC? My the rest of your trip be Trouble free. Dandy Dave! Edited July 3, 2009 by Dandy Dave (see edit history)
MrEarl
I second that emotion. But you listed his misfortunes in the wrong order. The A/C went FIRST, which I am sure exasperated the remaining problems. We're thinking of you Rob, hope things get better.
