Next year we move further west and I believe we have found a location that combines the tranquil beauty of Lake Geneva on a smaller scale, with the uniqueness of Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

Galena is located on the western border of Illinois, next to the Mississippi River and across from the city of Dubuque, Iowa.

The host hotel is a only a few years old with large, clean, very nicely decorated sleeping rooms at our special rate of $79 or $109 for a large suite. A complimentary breakfast is included.

Behind the hotel is a spacious green lawn beside a private lake, where catch and release fishing is permitted. Our hospitality room will look out over the lake and will extend out onto the outside deck. On show day our cars will be on that lawn around the lake as we were in Lake Geneva.

The historic and revitalized village of Galena is filled with unusual gift shops and many restaurants, which can easily take hours to tour. I expect many of you will return more than once to their fine restaurants.

A very few miles west is the Mississippi, and after crossing over to Iowa you may be interested in visiting the Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium as well as trying your luck at the Riverboat Casinos, both located immediately on the other side of the bridge.

Currently we are considering several events including a trip to the site of the Field of Dreams movie, a tour of the Evers Toy Company and a luncheon on a Riverboat. A detailed schedule of events and a registration form will be included in the next Riview.

Great site for the getogether.

In 2000 I was involved in planning for the BDE, and chose Galena as the location, and know the resort you refer to.

The trip to Dyersville, Iowa, site of the toy factory and s short trip to the Field of Dreams is easily done as well, and we put it in our itinerary.

I recent article about the Dreams site tells how the whole ball field now belongs to one owner. (until this year, a shared ownership existed. visit the infield, pay one owner, visit the outfield, pay another. It HAS to be easier now.)

Bring your glove, and play on the field.

Also, some great places from the elevated areas of Dubuque to view the Mississippi.

please take a lot of pictures and offer them if possible on a CD with tons of pitures from the old meetings so that we foreigners who are not able to participate can get an in depth impression what a big riviera meeting is like.

"Due to a large response, the Ramada and the Country Inn next door have sold out of standard rooms.

Members are asked to call the Irish Cottage, 815-778-0707, or toll free 866-284-7474. Ask for the special ROA rate of $79, normally $179. They are located about a mile away on Hwy. 20, just east of the village of Galena.

Suites are still available at the Country Inn and Suites, next to the host hotel for $109 by calling 815-777-2400."

Even though the Riviera I am restoring for my dad is no where near road ready - we were thinking about driving out for one day - just to see the cars and vendors (heck - I need a complete gasket, ring, and bearing kit for a 63 401 at least....)

Does anyone have any idea which day would be best to just see the cars, meet some people, see some vendors?

Monday and Wednesdays are good for me....

Thursday is the "car show." All other days have other things planned. Monday is basically the last travel day; people start showing up on Monday. There's a schedule of events on the ROA website that tells you who and when. Thursday night is the banquet/awards ceremony. Friday everyone leaves for home.

Thanks Ed,

I did see the itinerary - all the days looked similar, so I wasnt sure. It looks like with work schedules it will be wednesday. We will drive out in the morning and hang out for the day....

In the mean time - I have to find a rebuild kit for this 401.... Thanks! We will see you out there....
