I picked up a 1954 VW RHD Beetle from The Dezerland Auto Museum in Orlando, Florida on Wednesday. I try to shoot videos of vehicles not available to the general public from private collections and museums. Sometimes they are vehicles for sale - so to get to one of the storage rooms filled with Vintage VW’s for sale that are not being advertised - we had to walk thru The Dezerland Auto Museum … @ Jim

if you watch the video and listen to my narration, these vehicles are unknown to the general public and are not advertised for sale publicly anywhere. Part of what I do in my travels is share car collections, and if the opportunity arises share vehicles for sale that otherwise, no one would probably know of. If anyone has a serious interest in a vehicle shown in the video, they can call Ricardo @ 954-536-9068 Jim

What is the story behind your “handle”?

In 2006 I started collecting vintage travel trailers. I favored “ one offs “ and “ prototypes “. As the collection grew I designed a 40 foot open trailer to transport them - that grew into vintage trailer transport for other folks - that grew into vehicle and tractor/implement transport - that grew into enclosed vehicle transport. ” Trulyvintage “ means as it rolled off the line or as it was built. My all aluminum enclosed trailer has (5) welded hinges on the bottom with greasable zerc fittings. Most folks never grease their hinges. Jim

I just sold an enclosed car trailer on Facebook. I had probably 100 inquiries. The new owner lived 100 miles from the trailer. He paid a small deposit to hold the trailer over the weekend until the roads were clear to travel. I offered for him to pay the balance once he picked up the trailer from storage and got it back home. Everything went fine. I don’t do business of any kind unless I can talk to the other person on the phone. The exception is folks who live overseas. Who you do business with is equally important as what you are buying or selling. Jim

The Bakersfield Spring Prewar Swap Meet had a following that carried north to Tulare where Jim Holguin organized another prewar swap meet to serve the interest of the hobby. Now he is continuing down in McFarland at The Famoso Dragstrip: @ https://famosodragstrip.com This venue is less than 30 miles from Bakersfield. The Bakersfield Swap Meet did not become an overnight success - it took years to grow. This event will require the same. If folks don’t support real world swap meets - they will end. Like I said before - the success or failure lies in the hands of the hobby. Jim

When Covid hit - the fairgrounds were utilized for public immunization and scheduled events were postponed and/or canceled. The Spring Pre War Swap Meet was one of those events. The fairground event schedule returned to normal before The Spring Pre War Swap Meet. I know this because I was in communication with the director of the fairgrounds. But that didn’t matter because the decision had already been made not to continue the event before Covid hit. Those are the facts. Jim

The facts are as I have related them. I promote the pre war hobby for the good of the hobby. I attended The Bakersfield Swap Meet over the years several times. I live streamed and shared videos to my YouTube channel - Facebook and social media at my own personal expense. I promoted and covered the event when it moved up to The Ag Center in 2022 leading up to the swap meet with unrestricted access to the facility. Jim

The Bakersfield Swap Meet had not run its course. There was at least one person who is long established and well respected in the Pre War Community that was in constant contact and offered to assist and/or take over the event but he was stonewalled. The Bakersfield Swap meet never ” belonged “ to any car organization or club - it was successful because the hobby supported it. Jim

The local chapter of The HCCA decided The Bakersfield Swap Meet had run its course so they shut it down - rather than allow others to continue the event. I heard that directly from one of the members that had been involved since the early years. Having a pre war swap meet at a local established privately owned business and having a respected California native manage it puts the success or failure in the hands of the Public where it belongs. My good friend Jim Holguin has a reputation organizing car events in and around Visalia, CA. Jim was approached by the owners of Famoso Drag Strip outside of Bakersfield , CA to take over the planning of their Spring Drag Swap. Jim was approached about reserving spaces for Pre War Vendors and he has graciously provided an area. This is not being promoted to the general public so if you want folks coming out - you have to spread the word for it to patronized. Jim
