47 ford PU that I updated with a 50 Merc engine with Offy intake and dual carbs. Drove it through high school until my senior year when I purchased a 53 Olds 98 Holiday. I soon updated the Olds with a 57 J-2 and a 37 LaSalle standard transmission. I wasn't smart enough to change the rear end ratio so I was a little slow off the line but you didn't have to shift to high until 90. Sure wish I had that one back.

Later ones incorporated a water detector in the fuel tank, but no means of separating it
If my 82 year old my memory is correct didn't GM issue a service bulletin on how to drain water from the furl tank. Purchased the 79 new from a Des Moines dealer who sold a ton of diesels and draining water from the fuel tank was added to routine service at some time. There was also a up charge for HD diesel oil.

fuel filters and water separators.
The early Olds diesels did not have a water separator if my memory is correct. What were they thinking???

It's my style right down to the crossover pipe and quiet muffler
What a great find. Can't wait to see the finished product. You can't beat being in the right place at the right time. Reminds me of hearing about a Cadillac Convertible stored in a rural Iowa airplane hanger. My only regret was that I didn't also but the pristine 1963 Avanti that was also stored there. The owner wanted 8K and I walked.

Thanks to all who replied. What an education. The car is in an estate and probably won't be available until late spring of early summer. I have only seen photos but plan to purchase it because of the low mileage and condition. Back in 1985 I owned a 81 Seville diesel and loved the car. Transmission went out at 129K and it was sold. My wife drove a 79 Olds 98 sedan diesel to 120K before she traded it. We must have been lucky.

Looking at a low mileage 1980 Seville that has the 6 liter with throttle body FI. It does not have the vinyl top covering. Any thoughts on the car and motor appreciated. Plan to use it as a tour car for AACA and VMCCA tours. My usage will probably be less than 5000 miles/year.. Thanks

Having not previously seen the library I extended my Sentimental Tour stay an extra day and spent Friday morning at the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing and the afternoon at the library researching the Garford. Very impressed with the facility and the Staff. Thanks to all who made it happen.

If my memory is correct he eloped with Myra his second cousin while still married to his last wife. He was blackballed from radio and it took him a decade to restart his career.

Much like the automotive pioneers, music greats are falling. Rock and Roll great Jerry Lee Lewis died today at 87. Probably best known for Great Balls of Fire. along with his wild lifestyle. One of my favorites growing up. Somewhere in storage I still have a couple of his vinyl records.

I have had Diamondback radials on the 41 Cadillac for 12 years and 15 K miles. If I am missing the bias driving experience I haven't noticed it.

People and companies are fleeing Illinois at about the same rate as New York. If you have any "net worth" you would be an idiot to consider Illinois. Just my opinion and frequently wrong. Good luck with the sale.

I was told he and Judy were inspecting a newly painted car when he collapsed. I will take that any day rather than dying in a nursing home. Rest in peace Earl.

We've avoided Covid for 3 years and it's still around i
At least two of us caught it on the Sentimental tour including me. and it had only been 4 months since my last booster. Felt shi**y for 3 days but it took 2 weeks to get over the lethargy. At least it is behind you for now. This wont be over until everyone has had it and then it will probably mutate. Get well soon. From what I have heard this year was the Hershey to miss.

John Foust (Honest Johns Caddy Corner) passed away after a brief battle with cancer on September 24th. John grew up in a funeral home environment and fell in love with the Cadillacs used in the business. When his father refused to buy him a new Mustang at age 16 he a rehabilitated a non running 59 Fleetwood sedan that had been sitting for several years. After college he worked at Lonestar Cadillac until 1982 when he opened Honest Johns Caddy Corner in Denton Texas. This eventually grew into a worldwide Cadillac parts supplier.
When I was actively restoring Cadillacs John was a reliable source of parts and always ready to share his vast knowledge. He will be missed in the Cadillac community.

An interesting lithograph from my collection. John Stoddard started manufacturing farm machinery in 1869 under the “Tiger” brand. In the early 1890’s he diversified into Tiger brand bicycles which were produced until 1898. In 1905 he entered the automobile business producing the Stoddard Dayton 1905-1913 when it went into bankruptcy with the assets being purchased by Maxwell who ended up a part of Chrysler

All I know is that the advertising that I purchased prior to 2000 has appreciated considerably more that the cars. It is likely that my taste in memorabilia is better.. I have never considered appreciation in purchasing either, i buy what I like. This is a hobby, not a business.

Interesting Carburetor - 1952 Pontiac Convertible in Cuba with a V-8 transplant
in General Discussion
Posted
Just returned from a wonderful eight days in Cuba. On the last day of the trip we had the afternoon on our own so my wife and I toured Havana in a 52 Pontiac Convertible. A V-8 had been transplanted and ran quite well. I thought the carburetor was interesting.
