  1. I have a customer that is looking for a 1940 Ford Coupe. The coupe must have a V8 60 in it, and be original or restored. Just posting the wanted ad for him, not being a middle man on the sale. If you know of one, or have one for sale. Let me know and I will pass on the info.
  2. You have the same picture of the same road twice, just taken farther down the road. The rail road sign gives the clue. One picture is one block back, the other looks to be taken at the rail road crossing
  3. Going by signs, gas pumps, power poles/ insulators/transformers, leaves on the trees, weather, curbs with side walks, cars and fashions of the time. June 12th 1923/ Aug 3rd 1946/ Sept 26th 1948/ July 1 1950
  4. Sorry for my mix up, back fire in the brain. I do get the Speedster emailed. And the Antique Auto mailed, I did not receive the last issue. May be some one in the post office figured out how to get the magazine. Not a big deal, life will go on. here is a link to the NSRA fellow pages. http://nsra-usa.com/Members/Fellow-Pages/
  5. On the home page it shows the speedster magazine a monthly issue. What would be the deal with getting just 6? Are membership dues higher to get 12 issues?
  6. When was the last Speedster magazine sent out? Thinking about it last night, I do not think that I have received one for awhile. Member number on card is 009797 J . Do the numbers reflect how many members are in the club?
  7. I am a current AACA member (shows your screening process still needs work) Looked for the roster on the Home page, did not see it, I am guessing that I would be listed, having a membership. The Speedster is a nice magazine, good job to who ever puts it together. Not sure how you add all the stuff below your posts, showing the cars or clubs or comments?
  8. You think the Germans are hard to beat. My wife is German, The good thing is you never have to guess where you stand.
  9. There is a ton of old automotive advertising and literature, and most of it has very little value, and is not really collected by a lot of people. Some of that stuff framed, would be better then a plastic trophy. And you could hang it on the wall, and it would look nice in a shop or garage. No matter what car was pictured in the ad. You see a lot of car clubs make their own awards, that can get interesting. I know people who save the trophies, and then pop off the brass tags, and then give them to coaches of kids sports teams in the area. Not sure what the trophies cost, but it can not be cheap. A plaque you could hang on the wall. One good thing about trophies, if you are in to spiders, in the right light you can see all of the cob webs spun across the tops of all of them. There is a good idea for a post, the dustiest trophy picture.
  10. I brought up this question on a different post. (sorry Paul) On the street rod side of the car world, they have a list of club members that have shops/garages that can help out other club members passing through town with their classic cars, should they run into a problem on the road. I was wondering if the AACA had a list of members that could do the same? If tours were planed on a route that passed by shops, drivers could take a break and cars could be looked over. Might take some of the worry out of hitting the road with some of the older cars.
  11. When I was in the Hudson club years ago, they would give out awards for the oldest driver, the youngest driver, oldest car, newest car, hard luck story, greatest distance traveled and so on. They never judged cars against each other. Not sure if that is still done? I would think, nice setting, good food, beer/wine, no burn outs, no trophies, no entry fees, open to any car, donations helping Vets and kids would be a good show every time.
  12. Sorry to ad some thing different to your post. But when you asked about a membership roster. It made me wonder, does the AACA have a list of members that have shops/garages in different towns that can help club members passing through if they run into trouble with their classic cars? I know on the street rod side they have this. If so, how do you ad your name on the list. I have the tools and lifts to do any task if some one is passing through and brakes down.
  13. I have never gotten in to judging, and this post has made me remember why. I am just a custom car builder, I will leave the judging to the pros.
  14. I agree with what you have said John_S_in_Penna. I have been asked by people if I think this is a hobby, or an industry? If I work on my cars, Then I am doing what I enjoy, my hobby. If I am working on a customers car, then I am part of the restoration/street rod/custom car/after market/car show industry. To have fun, enjoy, share, talk about the hobby is easy. The industry side is tough, a lot tougher then it needs to be. Just like with taking pills, it is the side effects that do the most harm.
  15. That is cool. The bumper car bumper is a bit much. Do you have a side view?
  16. What would happen if you took the last ten best of show winners from Pebble Beach and lined them up. Could you as a judge pick a best of show winner from the ten? If their condition was the same.
  17. Jim has the cap out there. http://www.jimsvintageautomotive.com/
  18. You should also have the split exhaust, but this could be bolted on to any engine as well. Out side of bigger head stud bolts as said above, all the goodies are inside the motor. I used to pick up the mail for Mac (owned McDonald Motors in Seattle) He was one of two old Hudson dealers left, Miller Motors being the other one. Mac said he bought out the Hudson Plant in Portland And had truck loads of 308 twin-H engines in the crate. Sold them for $250 dollars to people on exchange. Said he had so many used 308 engines that they just started scrapping them.
  19. I will bite my tongue on this topic. But I do have a question, does any one else think that a restored car taken to a top notch level. (for today's standards) Is over restored? I know on the street rod /custom side to win top honors (not talking a show in the park) the level your car has to be, is off the chart. And when you build cars, and inspect cars. It makes it very hard to look at some thing and not compare it to the other cars you have see/built/restored. One of the painters that I have worked with does top notch paint work. Then I would have to go and inspect cars for a company that I did work for and grade the chrome, stainless, wheels, tires and paint and so on. The grading scale was A-E. If you build cars or restore them, and you have a finish on anything, that is as good as it gets. Anything short of that does not score as high. I have looked at very nice cars, and gave the owner a grade of B on the inspection for paint. And the owner gets mad. As he should, very nice paint. But if flawless gets an A. What does just short of flawless get? I have a friend that told me he was at a car show, and watched a guy who won second place. Get so pissed off, he threw the trophy right at his own windshield. It is crazy that people get so worked up over a plastic symbol of achievement. If you want my opinion. (you are going to get it) I think it would be great if some of these shows reached out to schools, and got a class room to attend the show. Not having kids of my own. I do not know the best age for the children. But they need to be of the age where every thing that comes out of their mouths is the brutal truth. Just imagine some guy in his car 500K+ being judged by twenty kids that think, not that his paint is flawless, but that the color looks funny. Or that his car looks strange or goofy. Talk about bringing you back to reality. It would also get kids involved in the car stuff, they would all ways remember the day they were asked to judge cars. And you might just plant a seed in a future car guy/gal. If the peoples choice award is the one to get. Kids choice would be the best of show in my opinion, you would never know what they would pick.
  20. With a election just around the corner. A person might be able to run in to the owner at a voting both.
  21. Another thing, Hold the vent frames up to the ones on your truck. Make sure that they have not been "sprung" (spread apart). It really sucks when setting the vent glass, and the frame wants to keep pulling away from the glass/rubber setting tape, because it has been spread apart. Tracing out the shape of the pieces on cardboard before sending them out can help as a pattern. Some times you have to re-shape them, and hope you do not crack the chrome. All the fun things we get to deal with putting cars/trucks together. One little trick you can use to avoid problems with wing window frames, is to get rid of them.
  22. There has been talk on another post about paint, chrome is another tough one. We all know that the only way to fix the pits, is to fill them in and prep the surface. Again, and again, and again. What bothers me about some of this stuff. If you plate a bumper and it looks bad, you redo it. Some of these pot metal parts are hard to find. And once you lose the detail in some of these pieces, it is just a paper weight. The hood ornament on your truck has a lot of fine line details on the side. I have never seen one of those re-plated that has not lost the detail in it. Another tough job where skill and quality shows. A restored/custom car with top notch bright work really stands out.
