  1. I am a member. What do they need? They might have better luck with the forum than the website. http://www.professionalcarsociety.org/
  2. While that is a very interesting color, I am not sure if it is correct for that car. It looks like more of a mid-late 1950's color. I would want to get Mercury paint chips for 1964 and see if that color was offered. Also, since it has been repainted, I would want to check for bondo and bodywork.
  3. Having to pay to show my car while spectators get in for free does not sit well with me either. There is no show without the cars. So why should I pay to bring it so that you can have a show and make money? I can just park it in spectator parking and get in for free, or even just bring my daily driver and get in for free so why pay $25 to bring my car? The only time I pay for my car to enter a show is when the show appreciates it by giving you something in return. Free admission to a locale that normally charges, free T-shirt, ice cream or just some token to show that they are not using your car to make money for themselves while charging you to do it. I would rather get in for free and pay for food, than paying to get in and get free food. That way I can pay if I am hungry and want it. They can also run out of food, and if it was supposed to be free, people that didn't get any will feel screwed. I do like the idea of a "never seen in person before" award. Although I supposed that could cause problems if something really rare shows up, and something common wins simply because there are a lot of clueless people there. I also hate when there is no shade or no place to escape sun, heat, or rain. Even if it a just a tent, or going into a store at the perimeter. Also not having any seating is annoying.
  4. In my area during the summer, there are usually about 10-15 shows or cruise nights every Friday - Saturday. The majority of them are populated by street rods, customs, and rat rods. I'm not really interested in trophies, but the trophies usually go to the car with flat black primer and flames, a huge blower sticking up out of the hood higher than the roof, and 22" wheels. I have no interest in going to shows to see this. I prefer to go to shows with nice stock restored or original cars, which are a minority. If the AACA allowed rods and customs in their shows here, they would quickly take over, and there would be no difference between an AACA show and any other rod and custom show in the area. And I would no longer be interested in going to AACA shows.
  5. Nice attitude. The car attracts attention. Maybe yours don't. I think the location also has something to do with it. Some places people are respectful, other places, they aren't.
  6. Rude, obnoxious, disrespectful, and ignorant people have always been around. But they do seem to be increasing in number. I also find that many parents do not teach their children not to touch other people's property any more. In fact, they usually just stand there while the kids are wrecking stuff. Plus, I guess with new car auto shows, people can get in and do whatever they want. So I guess they think they can do the same at an antique car show. For whatever reason, people seem to have to "pet" the aqua velour seats on my car. Doesn't matter if they have mustard, ice cream, ketchup, or whatever on their hands. they want to do it anyway. I spent a lot of time shampooing the interior of my car, only to find mustard, etc., stains on the seats when I come back. So my car always has the windows rolled up and doors locked. I don't care if it is sitting next to a million dollar Duesenberg that is wide open. Mine will be closed and locked. People can laugh at that if they want, but it is my car, and I want it kept nice. I also get tired of hearing that we are the ambassadors of this hobby so we should allow kids and even adults to sit in and play in our cars and try not to hurt their feelings if they are doing something wrong. I'm not got to sit there and do nothing while someone is jumping on or smearing ice cream all over my car. I don't need to have my car damaged just so maybe someone won't get their feelings hurt or maybe in 20 years they will (but probably won't) have an interest in old cars. If someone expresses a genuine interest in my car and seems like they will treat it with respect. Then I will open a door, and maybe even let them sit in it. But that is at my discretion if I decide to do so. They are not entitled to do that as many people think they are. Usually I have pleasant experiences at a show, and I have only had a few minor incidents with no permanent damage. But I would like to keep it that way and not have any more.
  7. I was wondering that myself. For most of the choices, I would pick "none of the above". I kept getting the Aston Martin. Not even close. I'd go with an Imperial or Cadillac. Now would that be a convertible or soft top?
  8. There is a local guy here that owns 2 or 3 of them. They keep getting different paint jobs, one step up from a roller job. I tried talking to him once, even correctly identifying them as Custom Clouds, but he was not friendly. He actually seemed annoyed that I knew what it was.
  9. It always annoyed me before. Now that I have my 2012 CamAro, it is just unbelievable how many times I see this incorrectly spelled. I don't get it. The correct way is with 2 A's. Why change to a different incorrect vowel?
  10. I'd say they forgot the most important thing, Style. From the streamlining of 1930's - 1940's, chrome and fins of the 1950's, to the excesses of the 1970's, I do not think we will ever see that kind of artistic style on cars ever again. If antique cars looked like most current 4 door mid-size uninspired appliances, I would have zero interest in them.
  11. Yes, I was there on Saturday. There were a couple of Cutlasses parked in the same area as me, but I could not remember what the one in your avatar looked like. Since I was at "Eyes" on Sunday, I did not get to do the pass and review at Motor Muster on Sunday. I would have liked hearing what they have to say about my car, and whether any of it is accurate.
  12. I thought about seeing if I could get the Givenchy to be shown there. They were featuring personal luxury cars and even mentioned Givenchy in the program, plus I know someone that knew someone on the committee. But I didn't do it. I don't think I missed much. I talked to friends that had their car there, and they said they had to be there at 7:30 a.m., and then they ran out of breakfast food. So they didn't get any. I got there at a nice leisurely 11:00, and had more than enough time to see everything twice or more. It wasn't a very big show. I also thought that it was tacky that after paying $20.00 to get in, they wanted another $12.00 to tour Edsel's house. I wanted to see it once, and I did. But I don't think I need to see it again. I'd rather spend both days at Greenfield Village with Motor Muster.
  13. They do. They are called "Rest Stops". Previously they did not need to be specially named to instruct people to go there to text.
  14. That would be really disappointing if it has turned into a Mustang show. They only allow 800 cars, and they wanted variety before. The last time I was there (2010) they told me they rejected over 300 1964 1/2 - 1966 Mustangs because they didn't want the show overrun with them. Last I heard they didn't want more than 4 examples of any model per year. I hope that hasn't changed.
  15. I will be there on Saturday with the Givenchy. That is surprising that you got in with a '66 Mustang.
  16. You do not need the resonators, but your exhaust will be louder without them. I went with a less restrictive muffler (which makes for louder exhaust, but cooler running), and put new resonators on it to quiet it. So it is slightly louder than factory, but doesn't sound like it is coming from something with a blower and flames painted on it.
  17. The voltage regulator is a common problem with these cars, and will cause this.
  18. That looks like something Columbo would be driving if he was still alive and needed a new car.
  19. A recent post about painting a Ford logo on a Ford truck really has me wondering about this. http://editorial.autos.msn.com/blogs/post--equus-bass-770-the-dollar250000-restomod?ocid=ansauto11 If people are worried about Ford suing because of painting a Ford logo on a Ford, why isn't Ford suing for what is obviously a rip off of the Mustang's styling (just with a bizarre Australian looking front end)? And Hyundai already has the Equus name.
  20. I checked those out, and they sell parts, but it doesn't look like they do any repairs. I was just hoping someone might have had a digital car clock repaired, and knew of a place that might work on it.
  21. What results did you get? I have tried that many, many times, and despite typing "digital", once you click on the links, the places only repair grandfather and mantle clocks, pocket watches, and speedometers. I have never found one that says they will repair a digital clock. I also thought about contacting the manufacturer (Cicena), But the info I have found shows they were in Kowloon, and I'm not sure if they are even still in business. Besides, years ago, I contacted Kraco to see if they could repair an 8-track to cassette adapter that they made, and they just laughed and hung up on me. I expect I'd probably get the same reaction from Cicena.
  22. I suppose that could be tried as a last resort if no one can fix it. But I used it as an alarm clock. So I don't know how you would hook up another clock's display numbers to work the alarm and radio. Plus they would have to fit in the current space. I have a cheap digital clock I am using now as an alarm, but the numbers are a different size and would not fit (too big).
  23. Ok, this is not car related at all. But I was hoping someone might have an idea anyway. I have a retro art deco clock radio that I bought new in the late 1980's. It has worked faithfully for years, and still works, but the digital numbers started burning out. It has a "7 bar" number 8 that with assorted bars burned out looked like a 3 or backwards 7, etc. Then it finally burned out all the numbers. Is there anyone that can fix this? Maybe someone that works on digital car radios? I hate to give up on it, and get a boring regular alarm clock since it fits in perfectly with the 1940's antiques in my house. I looked on Ebay for a replacement, but to my surprise, they are pretty rare and the only two I found were selling for $90 - $125, and they would not send pictures of them with the numbers lit up, so who knows if they even worked. I'd rather take it in or send it someplace than try to take it apart myself and then just end up with a disassembled mess since I have no clue about electronics.
  24. There is no way I would take a 1985-1990 Park Ave over a 1984 or 1976. I am sure many people feel the same. when they were new, you either got a new downsized one or old used one. Now, you can choose an antique based on personal preference. There is no more new car warranty or don't want a used one I want new choice. K-cars, for better or worse, are what saved Chrysler in the 1980's. So of course they will get a lot of attention for that. Taurus/Sable are the cars that brought aerodynamics into the mainstream family car as opposed to specialty cars. There were others before. But they are what changed everything for car manufacturers. The post 1985 full size GM's really had nothing unique like that about them. And many people, myself included, did not like what replaced the 1984 and earlier cars. So there is no happy nostalgic feeling there that entices many people to buy an antique car.
  25. Those that did not attend The Professional Car Society's Milwaukee International Meet missed an awesome chance to see about 50 antique hearses and combination coaches. Along with the ambulances and Limos, we practically took over the Milwaukee Masterpiece Concours with about 85 cars in total. A 1959 S&S Cadillac 3 way took best of show on club day over Mercedes, Aston Martins, Packards, and many others. And a 1927 Henney combination coach won best of class at the Concours.
