  1. Mr Earl: Thanks for the tip. I will get in touch with him? Any other canidates out there? Thanks, Gary
  2. I am looking for a reliable and reasonable individual to rebuild a couple of nail head motors for me. Would like them to be reasonably close (within a couple of hundred miles) to South Bend, IN. Anyone know of some one? Thanks, Gary
  3. Lamar: Looking good! A great experience and a BEAUTIFUL car. Thanks to Mr. Coker for allowing the car to be viewed and all involved in putting the video together. It was great. Truly a great piece of BUICK history!
  4. I am currently parting out a '42 Buick Special Sedan. Fenders, Front Fender Extensions, Doors, Hood, Nice Grill, Bumpers, Some Good Stainless Trim, Dash Componets, Clock, Under Seat Heater, Interior Parts/Trim/Panels, etc. The engine, transmission and radiator are NOT for sale at this time. Maybe later if I can't get a project car bought. E-mail me at gggholson@comcast.net with your needs. I brought this car home to salvage as the body itself is pretty rough in the rear portion. What's left after a month or so will be scrapped. If any one wants the body and frame come and get it as it is free. This is not a get rich program. I just hated to see this car get crushed when there were MANY useable/salvageable parts on it! I can deliver larger parts to the BCA meet in Ames in July. Let me know what you need and I can take pictures and get back to you. I am NOT going to have this stuff laying around all summer. I am located in South Bend, IN.
  5. The body itself and interior are way too far gone for me to consider for a project. Some one else might see it differently. Not really a car of interest to me. The grille is very nice. One verticle bar has a dent that could be repaired. I believe that all of the dual carb set up is there. The carbs are on the manifold and I found the top of the breather but not the center portion that hangs down. Probably in the car as is all of the trim and etc. were removed and then stuffed back in the car. Over the next few days I will get it unloaded and laid out to see what all is there. There is an outside chance that the title will be available. The seller is in the process of moving and thinks it might turn up.
  6. Saved from the crusher!!! The "old girl" followed me home today. Apparently was a Kentucky car orginally. Amazingly solid sheet metal. I have not gone through everything yet as was happy just to get home and out of the rain. Looks like most every thing is there. Any one need any '42 Special Style 42-4409 parts??
  7. Looking for the following 1957 Olds dash parts that are unique to a car with factory A/C. 1. Deflector and Bezel Assembly (Both Sides) P/N 9.264 2. Center Door and Parts (Two required) P/N 9.264 3. A/C Control and related knobs) P/N 9.277 and 9.278 (knobs) Surely some one has parted out a car and has some or all of these laying around. Thanks, Gary
  8. This was orginally posted under POST WAR TECH. Several lookers but no info. Surely someone has information. I have been told that an early '60's full size Buick differential third member will bolt right in to a '57 Buick rear axle housing, thus solving a portion of the closed drive shaft issue. Can someone please direct me to a reference and/or specific years that will inter change? Thanks, Gary
  9. I have been told that an early '60's full size Buick third member will bolt right in a '57 rear axle, thus solving part of the closed drive shaft issue. Can someone please direct me to a reference and/or specific years that will work? Thanks, Gary
  10. Thanks for the input. The 4 speed sounded like a fun ride but would tend to go with an orginal set up. Thanks, Gary
  11. Can any one tell me if any 1969 Sport Wagons with the 400 engine (340 HP) were factory built with 4 speed transmissions? Thanks, Gary
  12. My first car was a 1940 4 dr Chevrolet and I got it in March 1956. It was an elderly neighbors car that my dad bought for $100. I lived in a small rural town in central Illinois and needed transportation to get to my farm jobs. My hourly wage was $1.00 per hour. After school was out I would make up to $100.00 per week. That was a lot of money then but the hours were long and the work was HARD. By the way gas was about $.23 cents per gallon. My second car was a 1939 Buick Special business coupe. I got it in February or March 1957 and it was a fun car. Paid $125.00 plus the ' 40 Chevy. It could haul lots of stuff like my bass violin or 6 to 7 girls! It was a great car and pretty fast for its time. The speedometer went to 120 and it would go to the peg. Once, out ran a new 1957 Ford Thunder Bird on my way home late one night. It took a long time to get that old straight eight wound up but it would fly after a mile or two! The cars down fall came when I found a two carb manifold off of a 40 or 41 and installed it on my car. Cut one flange off of the exhaust manifold and turned around so that I could install duals and glass packs. You could hear it for blocks when I got on it!! The only problem was that after I put the dual carb manifold on it seemed like it had a cooling problem and kept burning the top out of number 8 piston. I really miss the old girl. The last time I saw her she was setting beside a house on West Sagamon Ave in Springfield, Illinois. She sat there for several years in the late 50's/early 60's. Does any one know where she is now?? Since then I have had many Buicks with a Chevy or two plus one Mustang convertible mixed in but I guess it could be said that I have been a Buick man most of my life. Happy New Year Gary
  13. March 1956. Took the test in a grey and white 1956 Chevy two ten 4 dr. Did my practice in a 1952 Chevy and on my first "lesson" I was backing out of the drive to go feed my steers and because I had some slick "stuff" on my boots my foot slipped off the clutch and the car lurched forward and struck a large maple tree. Wasn't sure that I would ever get to try to drive again!
  14. I have the back 1/3 of a '53 Super 2 DR HT body that has a solid trunk floor and spare tire well. $100 and you pick up, It is in north central Indiana and if there is no interest it will be scrapped by the end of the month. If you have any interest please PM me. Gary
  15. I picked one up at Auto Plus last week. A cheap one made in China for $5.00 but worked fine. Auto Zone did not have one.

    SANDBLASTING

Sand blasting and sheet metal often do not make for good results. I have seen many parts ruined by an inexperienced blaster. Once saw a Model T sedan that the cowl ended up approximately 90 degrees to the rear of the car. A tremendous amout of heat is generated by the sand. Try blasting at night and see how red the metal gets. I would consider soda blasting sheet metal even though it has some draw backs. Sand is great for frames, bumper supports and other heavier parts. My 2 cents.
  17. It is my understanding that just the 425's in Rivieras were painted red. Maybe a Riviera person can confirm that.
  18. I am in the process of trying to buy a 425 motor, single 4BBL that supposedly came out of a 1966 Riviera. It does not have the cast valve covers. What models came from the factory with cast "BUICK" valve covers. The block number is 1364704 so that checks. What other identification should I be looking for to ensure that it is a 425? Thanks, Gary
  19. Mike: Thanks for your response. I am chasing down a couple of leads a little closer to home but will keep your number. Gary
  20. Looking for a good straight and rust free left front fender for a '69 Electra 225. Thanks, Gary
  21. Bill: My 2nd national but first forum breakfast. Don't know what number I am but put me down for two. Looking forward to putting a face with a name! Gary
  22. Thanks for the info. We are leaving from the West side of Indy on Monday AM. Maybe we will catch up at some point. Thanks, Gary
