  1. The insulation I used was a two-ply product. I think you can get it from Dennis Carpenter Ford parts (Bob can help me here, since I stole some pieces from Willie's garage).

Anyway, if you lay it in the sun, the glue separates and you peel the two plies apart. This means you are dealing with a 1/16" instead of a 1/8" (approx) thickness. Now you can cut it oversize by 1/4-1/2" and actually be able to stuff it under the trunk braces. Install using weatherstrip adhesive instead of contact cement or you can't move it around. Once it sets up, it isn't going anywhere.

Now, if only I could stop spraying orange peel, I'd do a happy-as-a-clam dance!

That issue is for another forum though. :)

Carpenter's place is right around the corner from the host hotel in Concord in case anyone wanted to stop by there. Looks like I need to make a visit myself, to get some insulation.

  2. The "B" Magazine makes the third one for us since Lana has a 2011 Lacrosse and I have a 2012 Lacrosse.

OK good at least I know you got it. Sorry it's the third one, hopefully for those who get it the first time will like it too.

SO... whats' the feedback do you like the B Magazine? THe BCA has worked hard to build the relationship back with Buick-GMC after the bankruptcy when we didn't have the points of contact we used. Buick-GMC is interested in the feedback from the club and selling some cars too (Looks like Serb did his part already).

  3. Any more updates on the number of registered cars?

Well I think I jinxed it when I said registrations were still pouring in, 'cause we went from 10 in one day to 10 the rest of the week.

We are at 327 cars as of yesterday. With 3.5 weeks to go we'll have more registrations trickle in but we are not going to make 500 cars :o, but not for lack of trying.

  4. I've rewired the trunk, and now I'd like to replace the plywood over the spare tire. I'm guessing by the bolt pattern that there were three pieces - one deep in the back, and two over the tire - is that correct? Were they contoured around the wheelhousings, or just square?

I have not found good info in the shop or body manual, and don't see alot of 38 coupe trunk pix.

Anyone have some pointers - or some pictures to share?

I think I recall seeing exact dimension in an old Torque Tube.

Check the tech index found here and then look in the appropriate magazine.

  5. Are any of the Reatta parts vendors going to have booths setup to sell their wares? If so where would that be?

    Ronnie,

There are 30 vendors registered as of last week. They are registered by peoples names (not company names). The only one I recognize as a Reatta vendor is Marck, but admittedly not being a Reatta guy I probably would not recognize all the names of Reatta vendors.

The flea market will be located at the host hotel (Embassy Suites Concord) both outside in the West parking lot and inside in the Concord rooms I and J. Flea market folks can setup on Tuesday even though the meet offically starts Wednesday.

  6. I have received the results of the elections below is the exact email from Joel (I bolded the top 4 who were elected and added the note on the 2 yr appotinment). All candidates have been informed of the results. Congratulations to our newly elected BOD members who will take there seats on the BOD at the Concord Meet. Thank you all the candidates that ran and offering to represent the membership.

As you know, the Board of Directors has again asked our firm to count the ballots for the 2012 Board of Directors’ Election. The purpose of this correspondence is to notify you of the results of the election. Please forward this e-mail to the Board President as soon as possible since I promised that he would receive the results today.

A total of 829 ballots were cast, many of which included the spouse’s vote. Included in the total were four ballots that were determined to be invalid because they were photocopies or contained white-out changes. One ballot was blank.

    The results are as follows:

    Brian Clark 415

    Brian DePouli 877

    Keith Horsfall 445

    Chuck Kerls 393

    Mike Middleton 393

    John Scheib 299

Dick Sweeney 410(Appointed to a 2YR filling the remainder of a vacated term)

  7. I received a phone call from a member asking whether there were any known issues with the 1976 LeSabres, like bad frames or something that would cause them to be fairly rare today. Per his voice mail he never sees any for sale or out and about. Doing a quick Jaxed Mash search I found 3 currently for sale, one's pretty darn nice with a decent price on it.

This is well out of my area of expertise and we do not have a tech expert on these so does anyone know anything about them?

  8. Hi, the 320 engine in my 38 Century is stamped with #63454443

Is this the correct engine for a 1938?

In looking at the carburetor, it's a Stromberg AAVB 267 which from what I've seen belongs to an engine in the 50's and that's what got me wondering on the engine.

Thanks for your ideas ... RonJ

Yes the engine serial number is for '38 Century engine.

  9. Brian, my grandfather may be interested in helping you out. I'll contact him tomorrow and see if he's interested.

Also, am I allowed to bring a guest to the judge's breakfast? I'm sure he'll probably make friends he could probably eat with that morning, but I was just curious.

    OK Marck, let me know.

As for the guest at the judges breakfast, if the guest is not going to judge, then the answer would be no, unfortunately. The reasoning is as follows. First I am going to give the hotel for meals and seats will be based on the number of judges so how would I even know about the guest (in theory if you hadn't just mentioned it). Second the breakfast is served at no expense to the judges as a thank you for their volunteering their time and effort in judging, so if the guest was not judging they'd just be getting a free meal for nothing. (and yes despite the free buffet in the atrium for hotel guests, the club has to pay for the breakfast served at the judges breakfast).

  10. What if only one member of a ChapterDivision helps, is there quantity requirement? What if you are a member of many Chapters/Divisions?

    Good questions.

I'll start with the easy one first. If you are a member of more than one chapter, division, etc you need to pick one, but it's entirely your choice. Heck if you are not in any chapter or division you can name one you like or donate to the BHA or something.

If only one person from a chapter helps that chapter would still get some portion of the profit. It may be a very small portion but something none the less.

So for example. Lets say 100 people outside the Carolina chapter volunteer (big number but easy math). Let's say 15% of the profit of the meet is $1000 (again easy math). and a the Buicktown chapter only has one person help; 1 out of 100 is .01 times $1000 = $10. So the Buicktown chapter would get $10, certainly not breaking the bank but its a little something and for the chapter that do supply a good number it could add up.

The shirt was meant to entice the indivdual to volunteer, while the profit share was meant to entice the other chapters (admittedly the more local ones) to encourage their members to help. But we are applying it evenly across the board so if you volunteer your time counts towards the chapter/division profit share.

Hope that makes sense. Not trying to make a congressional hearing out of this. Just want people to know their time not only benefits themselves (shirt) but the chapter/division of their choice.

  11. I am looking for a few more volunteers to help with parking and traffic control Saturday morning at the BCA National meet in Concord.

As most are aware we are going to have get all the cars on the showfield on Saturday morning much like they do at AACA events. Therefore we need a team of people to assist not just with parking but with traffic.

So if this sounds like something you want to help with let me know.

Here are some things to consider.

    1. You will be needed from 6AM (for a volunteer meeting) through about 10:30AM (every car should be on the field by 10AM but just in case there is a straggler plus some time to turn in radios, etc.

    2. If you are a BCA judge you will be in the judges breakfast Saturday morning and therefore gone most of the time we need you.

    3. If you have a car that will need to be on the showfield that is not a problem, you will be allowed to park it at 6:30AM before we let the traffic in at 7AM.

    4. You will receive the shirt as attached below as a thank you for your service. These shirts will only be available to volunteers and not for sale to the public and the don't say "STAFF" or anything like that. they are nice shirts you can wear again.

    5. WE have a profit sharing set up where we are sharing 15% of the event profit with the chapters that assist us. You can designate a Chapter or Division of your choice and they will get a portion of that 15% profit split for your efforts.

If you are interested respond here or PM me. I will need your real name (not your Forum handle) and your shirt size, please. Thanks.

  12. Hello BCAers,

I and my Asst Chairman, Bill McLaughlin, will be needing some people to help us "judge" the cars in the driven class for their certification awards. This class is about fun and low stress for the car owners and so the volunteer role is a very easy and fun too. The role only requires a small amount of time from the volunteer, plus you get to look at all the Driven Class cars while you do it.

For those members attending Concord, who are not serving as BCA Judges and are interested in helping the morning on show day, Saturday we could really use your help. We will meet at the media center entrance on the showfield at 9:30AM for a brief 15 minute orientation, than we will begin certifying the cars hopefully depending on number of cars in the class and "judges" we should be done before lunch maybe even much quicker. So plenty of time to prep your own cars that morning or get to see the rest of the cars on the showfield.

If you are attending Concord and are interested in helping, either post a note here or PM me with your contact info (email, cell phone).

Also for those interested in participating in the Driven Class with their vehicles and have questions please feel free to ask them.

    Thanks and Go Buick!!

  13. This was posted here some time ago.

    Danny

So to answer BJM's initial question

1930 - radiator cap with no ornamentation just plain boring cap

1931 - rad cap with one of two options a #8 (for 8 cyl) or an Apollo (see notes on 1932)

1932 -possibly the same as '31 or I am mixing them up with '31, John Schieb will correct me if needed.

1933 - Goddess on rad cap

1934 - not a cap from here out - Goddess

1935- Goddess (note supposedly for 34-35 one year eyes are open, one year they are closed, seriously, I can't recall which one is which)

1936 & on - as show in the picture by danhar1960

Note - to me the '36 and on look like stylized trains, which I think is more than coincidence since 3 of the 4 series names debuting in '36 (Special, Century and Limited) were train related names. With '36 being a train/goddess combo almost.
