  1. All,

Anyone who wants to view the official photos taken by the meet photographer and a few by some other folks can do so at the shutterfly site that has been set up.

    http://2012bcanationalmeet.shutterfly.com/

Individuals can order photo prints, shirts, mugs calendar, etc etc etc even make a custom book of the event from the photos via the site or just view a slide show. This seems the easiest way to distribute the photos to the membership since they are large file size.

The Carolina Chapter, nor the photographers, do not make any revenue from the sales of the items the site provides.

  2. I have been following this thread and wonder if it was/is wise, or in the best interest of the club to express ones feeling on this site regarding the recent elections. I wonder if letters to the Bugle wouldn't be better, such would go to ALL BCA members, and not all aaca members who may or may not be interested.

So per this poll about 90 BCA members on here

    http://forums.aaca.org/f115/you-bca-member-325239.html

    Bugle circulation 7600+ members

    Dale glad you are back!!

  3. Well I've been keeping quiet and reading the posts, but I have to get my feelings out. I'll be more open in saying yes I am upset in not being re-elected, I'm pretty bummed about it actually. In the past, yes, there have been numerous back room deals made for who will be what officer and who WON'T. I was approached one week after I was elected three years ago about one. This year I did not speak to a single BOD member about my desire to run again for President. Personally I was tired of the back room deals and people on and off the BOD trying to influence who will become what. I wanted to run on the merits of my accomplishments alone combined with the results of the election and the feedback the BOD received from the Chapter, Region and Division directors just before the BOD meeting. Here is a list of those accomplishments:

Improved relations with Buick-GMC from virtually nonexistent to partnering on several occasions

Buick-GMC’s VP of Sales and Service joined the BCA

Buick-GMC supplied B Magazines (Buick Owners magazine) to all BCA members

Buick-GMC added Buick Club of America to their “Likes” section on Buick’s facebook page

Went from having two years of non-competitive elections for Board of Directors due to lack of interest to recruiting 7 candidates to compete for 3 spots in this year’s election for BCA BOD.

Updated and corrected the BCA chapter, region and directors list and implemented an email distribution list to quickly communication with the directors on important issues.

Increased renewal rate from 79% to 89% on average for the fiscal year (11 month total as June date is not yet available).

Had a 6% increase in new membership over the previous year’s new member total.

Created, via chapter director surveys, a list of chapter membership attraction best practices and distributed the compiled ideas back to the chapter region and division directors for their use.

Got the BCA free media coverage on Hot Rod Magazine Radio Live, Autotrends Magazine and other media locations. As well as ensuring the BCA

and Buicks were the featured at 2012 Spring Charlotte Autofair, an event attended by over 100,000 people.

Advanced several cooperation initiatives with the GSCA, the BPG, the AACA and the CCCA. Talked frequently with Presidents and Exec Directors of the previously mentioned clubs as well as VCCA and OCA.

Through my ideas I helped the Buick Heritage Alliance raise $2500 at the 2012 BCA National meet and gave them the opportunity to do a silent auction at the meet to raise another $3K

Won the 2010 Gerstkemper Award for attracting the most new members and gave the $500 I won back to the BCA in the form of buying 10 memberships which were given to chapters and division to give away free.

I also made it my mission to try and respond to every individual sent a letter or email or phoned, because I am a firm believer in the golden rule and treating people the way I want to be treated. Also there were several people who had really really bad experience with the BCA in the past and recieved NO response from anyone at the time. Once I became aware of their situation and because of how I treated them and reacted to their displeasure with the BCA they rejoined the BCA, even though I never suggested they do so.

I note these not because I am looking for praise or ego stroking, but because the membership needs to know that apparently a majority of the BOD members feel that Rick can do better than that. As Willie noted you'll have to talk to each BOD member and ask them why they they voted the way they did. Like Rick I could care less about if people like me or not, I am secure in knowing I have numerous Buick friends who are friends for life. What I do care about is what is in the best interests of the Buick Club of America and its membership. I ran for BOD and ran for President to help guide the BCA in a manner I thought best for the long term viability of this club and will continue to do so.

If this situation is what spurs the membership to get involved, than that is awesome and will be good for the club long term, so perhaps this is a blessing for the BCA.

As Rick notes I'll be around for a "long time"... at 32, yes I sure hope I will be due to a healthly long life, but I have already have been around for long time. I actually have known people in this club for nearly 30 years, going to my first BCA National in 1983 and 25 overall. Per the By-laws for serving as President I am now a life member of the BCA, so I'm certainly not going anywhere.

So now that I have cleared the air on my side, I will most likely not be responding publically because we need to move on. All are welcome to PM, email or call if they want to discuss further, but I don't know that there is much else to say on the matter.

  4. There is to be a rubber hose it is L shaped. It goes from that tube through the interior firewall pad and out a hole in the firewall. Mine stick out of the firewall about an 1/8". The hole should be visible on the passenger side of the engine about the height of the head. It's about 3/4" in diameter.

I'll snap some photos if needed. Let me know.

  5. See post #39.... one of interest is the black '38 Limited in Modified, still running a straight 8 but with 2 carbs and single exhaust. It also had an unusual engineered a/c mounting system. I believe it was converted to automatic and the leather front and rear seats were beautiful.

I hope Pete can give us some additional coverage on this car in the future. I did not check the window sticker to get the owners name and state.

I only recall seeing one '58 Buick, but others may have been gone by the time we finished judging, always a bummer when people leave the show field early. By 3 pm there was maybe 10-15% of the cars still on site.

The owner is Arnold Petsche of Texas. Arnold and I have been exchanging emails for some time as he has progressed with the car. It also has electric windows. Bet you couldn't tell that. Gorgeous car, which I had more chance to look at it.

  7. Thanks Ben, Lamar, and Phil.

As for returning only time will tell, if the BOD wants me back and life's situations agree I'll be back. If they don't or I have something going that I feel the BCA would be better served by another individual in the role, then I won't. But regardless I still help my fellow Buick friends however I can.

  8. It's funny I was running around so much I only took one photo the whole time, which I'll post in a sec, but in looking at these photos I keep going...hmm didn't see that car...Oh wish I had seen that car. So thanks to all who are posting photos.

Ok below is the one photo I took. It was the last two cars left on the showfield Saturday afternoon. It's my dad's '38 Roadmaster sedan, the one that we drove to I don't know how many national meets 10? 12? starting in 1983 when I was three, next to my 1938 Roadmaster convertible, the one my dad bought in 1984 and I have been working on for the past 7 years with significant help form my dad. Neither my dad or I were sure either car was going to make it despite being both less than 5 miles away, but I thought it was kinda special that for my 25th National Meet and my father's 20th National Meet we were parked side by side.

  9. Lamar et al,

I do have to say I really like my "Italian stallion" version of the Buickman shirt complete with "Buick Man" shaved into the guy's chest hair...nice touch, very authentic!! j/k!!!

Pete was an excellent choice and I can't thank him enough for what he does for Buick's and the BCA, BUT.....

Let's give it up for Lamar (Mr Earl)!!! He deserves a really big thank you from all of us for organizing this every year.

    Thank you Mr Earl!

  10. Thank you Carl, Marck, Chuck, Bob and Brian C.

Carl, I was so glad you got the '37 down.

Marck, Excellent job leading one of the Friday driving groups!!

Chuck, I've enjoyed serving this past year on the BOD with you, we got to get you re-elected next year!!

Bob, thanks for all you did with the video creations and most importantly for getting Lamar there!!

Brian C. Congrats on the Hans Kaser award!!!

  11. The BCA already has an approved Race Car Class and it is a judged class. The Race Car Class debuted yesterday at the 2012 BCA National Meet. We had a Buick Regal NASCAR stock car that was brought by Nicola Bulgari. I didn't get to take a photo of it, but maybe some one else did. I personally thought this was the premier location to debut this class since the show was held inside Charlotte Motor Speedway. To commemorate the first time we had 1/3rd scale (or so) replica's of the Charlotte Motor Speedway NASCAR trophies for the winners.

The class is for Historic Buick Race Cars with a documented historical racing pedigree, Basically it is very similar to the AACA class for race cars , where the Buick's racing pedigree is to be reviewed by the BCA Chief Judge before registering. So a Tommy Ivo Dragster or a Shaffer Buick 8 Indy car would be perfect for this class. Judging criteria also draws heavily from the AACA's methods for race cars. See one of the recent Bugle's for more info on this class.

  12. The maintenance guy at the hotel said he had never seen all the air conditioners running ever. Didn't hear of any problems, so must be a good maintenance man!

Just like our Meet Chairman and his team did a awesome job, thanks to all, do it again in 7-10 years?? Ya think? You can teach your boys, how to do it!!!

    Thanks Roberta.

I'm sure I'll be itching to do it again soon enough. I had fun.

Nico and Luca had a great time. This was Nico's second National Meet (Co Springs was his first) and Luca's first. No doubt of many more to come.
