Ok so got a pertronix ignitor system for the 38 RM back at Hershey last year. Finally installed it and I have no spark. So I did something wrong. I have one on my Charger and it work great and was easy.
So first off I got an 1183N6 which is a Delco early 8 cyl 6v Neg ground...supposedly
Installed everything per instructions...supposedly
Wires to the coil red to pos black to neg...definitely
No spark..determined by timing light on a plug wire to see if the light lights up. Put it on the coil wire too and would get one quick light up of the timing light then nothing.
Checked the wires to the coil again...all there all tight.
So what have I done wrong.
Yes I get photos posted soon

Well I think you noted the reason right in your own message. In '30 Buick only had a 6 cyl, but in '31 the 60 series be came the 90 series and as you know from a body and interior perspective they are virtually identical, but the '31 has the first Buick straight-8. While I don't know if that is the specific reason why a '30-60 series is not a Full Classic but the nearly identical '31-90 series is, I would guess that may have a lot to do with it.

OK not a book but a DVD BLACK AIR | The Buick Grand National Documentary
-
I received a copy of this DVD today from a friend. Sat right down and watch it. It's pretty darn cool. I'm a pre-war guy, but of course love the go fast with class cars too and learned some things I didn't know. So check it out.
Here is the link to the Documentary's website

Are you sure the handles are originals? If not maybe they're aftermarket or from a different year. Filing the notch in the shaft so it has sharper shoulders might be worth a try.
Or in reverse are you sure the "post" the handle seats on is for the your car. note there are different post where the gear and indentation are in different spots. check the fronts versus the rears and make sure they are the same.

David, wasn't that collection just sold, or is about to?
Dale in Indy
yup looks like the Stalluppi(sp?) collection that just went on the block.

I got a call today from a reporter doing a piece on Casablanca and was interested to know if anyone knew if and where the 40 Buick from the movie might be. So any body got any leads.

no response??...go figure.
Thanks for all you do Roberta!

OK thanks.

Thakn will be interested if you can find the name. I've acquired a 19 and 21 tooth gear so I can experiment some too.

'37 the dial while circular fits in a square hole in the dash. (the bezel around the dial is square)
'38 the bezel is also circular and the hole in the dash is circular.
Hope that helps. Sorry don't have photos handy.

Joseph ,
This was posted over in the Buick Buy sell in case you didn't see it. Probably nothing you need, but you can always call and ask if he has what you DO need.

I have a Speedometer Gear part number 1305016 (stamped on the gear). It's a 20T gear. It was in my 38-80C. My speedometer registers about 20-25 MPH low and below 20MPH it doesn't even move. I checked my 1940 and 1946 chassis parts catalogs and they do not even list the part number and the part numbers they do list in Group 4.337 for my 80 Sereis are different though they are both 20 teeth gears (there a split by Chassis number and my chassis is BEFORE the number given). So looking for ideas on what this is for so I can figure out next steps on fixing my speedo. Thanks.

Interesting...I see a few things that help. Thanks.

Look who I saw at the car show this weekend...
That's Brian Depouli scratching his head. After spending months piecing his 1938 Roadmaster back together he asks...
"now were does the gas go again...?"
Great catching up Brian. The car is looking great!
Anderson
Hey I know that guy!
I was scratching my head trying to figure out why it's not running right. Still scratching.
Glad you made it out. Hey, get that ole '41 done so it can be parked on pit road at Autofair!!

Brian,
Do you still have this?
Jason
Jason sorry for the delay, I had to check to be sure, but it was sold back in March.
Regards,

If anyone needs a good contact for the convertible door flippers, here's who I used.<o:p</o
Anderson,
I am interested to know the following
1. Was it flipper only or the "track" too.
2. Have you made sure the flipper goes back to the angle necessary to allow the window to go all the way up (more on this in a sec)
3. So there was felt inside the flipper and the track? more pictures please??
The reason I ask related to my '38 phaeton:
1. I bought the flipper only (full stainless steel polished to mirror finish and very nice) from I'll choose not to name vendor that deals in repro parts
2. Mine do not go back far enough back. They hit the stops to early so I am going to have to machine the stop and have them re-polished.
3. I don't think mine are wide enough to allow felt in the flipper and let the chrome around glass slide into a felt lined flipper, but that said it makes good sense if they were felt lined.
Thanks

I was made aware that aside from our official meet photos there is a DVD of photos from the meet being sold by an individual who attended and snapped a lot of photos of our Buicks.
More info can be found here
Buick Club of America Charlotte Nationals - Car Guy DVDs
I bought a copy and it’s 35 minutes long and has a lot of photos. Note to owners of the newer cars (60’s - up) and driven class cars, the DVD is a bit light on photos of those cars.
Again the chapter has no affiliation with this guy, he just took a bunch of photos at the event and is selling DVD’s.

The rumors are not true! It was I, a lowly Analyst (and still a car guy), who purchased this car. After committing to it I realized it won't fit into my garage. I need to see if I can modify wall internally without an addition, which is not feasible. I have storage for now, but this may be an issue in the future. This is crazy, because my house was built just 2 years before this car was made. So if I had my house back then and was car shopping, I probably would not even look at this car! But my house back then would normally be more lowly than what the purchaser of this car new would be living in.
Yeah Lance! I can't wait to see it. You are officially my hero. Not that you weren't already for all you do on the BCA Facebook page.
Garage too small...details details.

These things are a nightmare to get straight...I'm sure they won't be 100% even when I think I'm done.
Amen brother. Been there.

I disassembled the pieces for painting in so far as I removed the middle stainless but left the top and bottom stainless that is riveted to the louvers. It is time consuming and reassembly was challenging. I had some pitting on the louvers that had to be glazed before repainting otherwise I would say it may be better to spend your time doing a really really good masking job. I used a matte silver.

Ok, I know most of you guys are old hands at this classic Buick stuff, but.........I'm beginning to feel a bit like Arnie in Stephen King's (my favorite modern author) "Christine". I keep finding myself going out and touching her, and sitting in her, and starting her, and CARESSING her! LOL While I wouldn't mind her "restoring herself", I just hope the radio doesn't come on, especially since there are no speakers yet!
LOL...yup normal!

Can't be very close to Intercourse, right?

It is where you have to stop when you can't make it to Intercourse.

Hmm... I can't think of any Buick named for a city. Riviera is a region and Somerset is an English county. There's a Century City in California but that might have been named for the car. Both the car and the mountain were named in honour of Rainier beer. Okay, there's Lucerne but I cheated by using Google, so that doesn't count.
What about Verano, IT??
I Must be doing something wrong

It was good just before I changed it. How can I test?
