Took the car to the shop. 15# vacuum. No leaks in engine compartment. Holding antifreeze. The damper for some reason is not opening. Forceful warm air to the floor, when I press the defroster after a short delay there is a metal clink and hardly no air to the windshield. Since the dash has to be removed, I have decided to change the heater core anyway. Seems $400.00 is worth being able to see thru the frost this time of year....Thanks for all of your help and knowledgable advice Merry Christmas Happy Chanuka May there always be sunny days with the top down with someone you love very much......Roger

Hi Stephanie, I have looked thru the tc pages to see if there was any articles on replacing the heater core. Do you know of any documentation on "how to"? the part from napa is only around $40.00 thanks roger

the passenger side floor is still bone dry. I have noticed anti-freeze on the drivers side floor. odor is still apparent but cant see any leaks in the engine. the blower is still warm but not hot thanks roger

One of the pins on my connector for the rear defogger is broken off. Are they available? roger

Oh, the temperature guage seems normal

The coolant level is low. I also have found some rusty colored specks on top of the valve cover. Quite a few. Still blowing warm air.

Hi Lou, Thanks for the advice. My a/c hasnt worked since I bought the car over 2 years ago. Didnt need it with the top down. I will replace the cap and see what happens Roger

the passenger side dash hasnt been messed with as far as i know. there isnt any anti freeze leaking into the inside. the air is warm not hot. i am going to try to put more anti freeze into the radiator and see what happens thanks for the help roger

The air is warm not hot like it used to be. When the control is on floor there is a much greater volume of air blowing. When I press the defroster button I hear a metal flap move (which I didnt hear before) and almost no air blows on the windshield.....

Yesterday on a one hour return trip, I couldnt get the defroster to work properly. I did notice briefly that smell of hot antifreeze like what happens when the heater core goes. the volume of air hitting the windshield has been greatly reduced. When I push the floor buttom I hear a metal flap which I never heard before. Any suggestions? Thanks Roger

I went to see the car today. It is very rough. Its a very early (no fake woodgrain dash) wide supports on the hood. Lights have no cracks but cant check if they work. Seats are very rough, armrest has disintegrated, a wheel is missing .....no glass in the rag top roger

I have two questions if anyone could help....one is a tc is for sale very near me with a cracked flex plate, the owner thought the trouble was in the transmission...whats a flex plate and is it expensive to have fixed? When I went to get my 89 TC this morning I noticed the soft top had released at the rear pins. I set the pins and operated the pull down motor and it tightened and locked. Then several seconds later it released and it wont stay locked. Any help would be appreciated...Thanks Roger

I was having trouble with the tops locking down. I did find out that you have to hold the button in to get the motors to work. until i found that out i was using the lug wrench thru the trunk. be very careful because i broke the spot weld on the lug and now it just spins. luckily i figured out the top lockdown situation. hopefully this will help roger
